Because people are ignorant and greedy... they don't do enough research into things and if *something* goes wrong in the hospital, the first instinct is to sue... so none of us knows or thinks about how things should actually happen and the folks we depend on to make those decisions for us are terrified we're going to sue them if something should happen during a portion of the birth they are not fully in control of.

Most of us are sheep, doing things because "most people do it". :(
