It's Glinda the Good Witch...And She's Hung Up in the Wires

Disney dumps Narnia. This is not real good y'all. It means that Walden media is going to have to waste precious time trying to find someone else to back the movie, which means there's a posibility that the movie won't get made. This also screws with the schedules of the actors. It also explains why Ben Barnes is stumping for the role of Aro. He's ( Read more... )

I cannot even begin to describe how gutted I am. :( Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Horse and his boy are my faves. Of course I love LWW, but these 2 books are so special to me.

There is some talk of Walden Media looking to sign with Fox or perhaps a similar studio. But its just awful of Disney to toss it now. Sure they didn't make a packet like they did on LWW but what did they expect? They released it in Summer when there was a virtual onslaught of movies from rival studios. LWW was released at Christmas-that's what they should have done for all the Narnia movies.

Also Ben Barnes for Aro...what do you think about that? I still haven't read the books properly and the only reason I'm getting the movie is to see Peter Facinelli.

Dawn Treader was my favorite of the books that were going to be made. Horse and His Boy is my complete favorite, but I knew that one wasn't going to get made. I thought it was a bad idea to move the release to summer from the beginning since family movies make more sense at Christmas. I hate that Disney is just dumping it without a by your leave.

Aro is probably a lot older in most people's minds. I don't begrudge Ben getting the work, but I hate for him to get tangled in the glittery nightmare that is the Twilight franchise. I'm sure Robert would enjoy having another Brit with looks to take some of the glare off of him, but I'm not sure I want that for Ben.

The thing with HHB is that because it happens just before the Pevensies leave Narnia at the end of LWW, it can be removed from the the other stories that neatly fit into some kind of chronological order. Shame. But we'd still have VoDT even if we couldn't enjoy HHB.
It's like they never really owned up to the mistake and instead just broke off their ties with the franchise.

I'm watching Twilight at the moment...this version is kinda lousy (quality wise) but the entire thing is just ridiculous. I'm just watching Carlisle most of the time. The acting is so bad, the special effects are LOL-worthy and the dialogue...oh dear. Its like they didn't rehearse and just rolled cameras anyway.

I would hate if he got pulled into this too. It just isn't the right fit for a guy who's done some really serious work so far and is starting off. He seems way to smart to get caught up in this. :/

I can understand why Disney dumped the franchise, looking at the numbers alone, but they released PC during the summer movie season with so much more competition, and the marketing was definitely not up to par with LWW (most of my friends didn't know that it was released and even if they did, they didn't know it was a sequel to LWW, which they thought was just a single book instead of part of a series). Disney should have given VDT a chance, but with this economy, I guess they aren't going to take any chances with a big-budget movie. Even if VDT finds another financial backer, I have a feeling that its budget will be slashed greatly.

That's my feeling on the matter. I understand Disney not wanting to take a risk, but I think they're blaming a lot on the movie that was really their own fault. They should have kept with the fall or Christmas release and they should have advertised differently. Obviously they're not taking ANY chances and I have a feeling if Fox or another group like that picks it up, there's going to be a lot of changes to the original concept.

Ugh, Disney. No wonder I left you. *shakes fist*

I guess this means the Narnia attraction at MGM Hollywood Studios is going bye-bye eventually... maybe.

I'd like to know what I have to do to be the intern who greases him up.

I recognize the fact they sold their soul a long time ago, but this was still disappointing.
