Here I am at UN Headquarters in Laayoune, Western Sahara. Some people would consider this the end of the earth, but tomorrow I'm going even further. Here, we have internet access and cheap phone calls to the US. Tomorrow I head out to my teamsite, where I won't have internet access, and my only connection to the outside world will be HF radio ( Read more... )

I sent the snail mail address to the exiles list. Those who want it should contact someone on that list (like just about anybody on my livejournal friends list). Cookies and other goodies for me, and small portable toys (dolls, matchbox cars, for example) for the poor kids in the area will be greatly appreciated. The US contingent has a shared email account - MINURSO22 ({at}) hotmail ({dot}) com - put my name in the subject line and one of my colleagues with internet access will put it on a floppy and send it to me on a resupply flight (figure at least a week turnaround). If you want my snailmail address and don't know anybody on the exiles list and are afraid to ask one of them, ask me at the hotmail address.

Do you want a picture of the cute beret with me in it, or just the beret? I'll eventually wind up posting a picture of me in the beret on my website, and before that, there will probably be copies of it floating around on CD along with various other photos from the mission, once I get some & get them sent out to people.

Hi there!

I spent a year in MINURSO (Oum Dreyga)- I confess I didn't know that we used to have a US contingent there... Anyway, I maintained a blog while I was there, and I still update it with my memories... It's in Greek, but hopefully you could enjoy some photos!

Regards

Christos
