Our second lecture on the Faerie Queene: the lecturer walks into the lecture hall, writes "I CAN'T STAND EDMUND SPENSER" on the white board, and leaves.

(And then comes back and delivers an excellent lecture.)

school monster, awesome monster

Hee hee. That's awesome! Does he actually hate Spenser? Reading Spenser generally makes me want to shoot myself. The only part of Faerie Queene I enjoyed was Britomart killing in Busirane in his sordid castle. Which books are you reading?

He was trying to highlight the problem of the poet's voice... saying that Edmund Spenser seems to be this awful, Puritanical, patriarchal, controlling guy-- not very likeable. But the point is, IS HE REALLY? DUN DUN DUN. (He hates Spenser the man, but loves the Faerie Queene)

Hahahahaha that's awesome!! Did you guys have to read the whole thing of the Faerie Queene? We only read book one.

That's such a different experience from what we had, though ... Professor Wallace IS a Spenserian hehe ... he has a fourth-year class entirely on Spenser!

We're only reading book one and possibly parts of book two and three.

Heh. Spenserian. This lecturer just hates Spenser as a person, though.

It's really not so bad, in my opinion. I'm actually enjoying it, although it takes a really long time.

Agreed... I had to read most of the damn thing for my Spenser and Milton class last year, and it really helps to just sit down, do it, and not cry about the atrociously inconsistent spelling and grammar.
