Game of Cards AU Challenge
Here's my idea for a modern AU of A Royal Affair, with one casting change. As usual, writing is NOT my strong suit, so I've just left a very basic description of the plot. The picspams aren't that great as it was hard to find pictures that fit, but I guess it could have came out worse. :P
A Royal Affair (modern AU)
King Christian of Denmark (Christoph Waltz) is married to Caroline Mathilde (Alicia Vikander), though it is not a very happy marriage. They put on a front for the public eye, but Christian's struggle with mental illness has placed a strain on the relationship. Caroline is simply too young to understand how tormented his mind is and she grows to resent him. It is decided that a personal physician might benefit Christian. This is where Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen), a German doctor comes into play. He and Christian become friends quickly through a shared appreciation of acting and the theatre. When Struensee is asked by Christian to attend to his wife and 'make her less boring', there is a spark of a different kind between the two when they realize they share the same political ideals and appreciation of the arts. The two eventually begin an affair that will lead to devastating consequences for all involved.
