Second Life & Linden Lab

Jan 10, 2011 11:24

I know some of you guys here play Second Life, or have in the past. Me personally, I haven't actually logged myself in, in over a year or so. Joe would log in my character to maintain the land that we'd been on, but I haven't even really touched it at all recently. Just too busy with other things ( Read more... )

wow, I never paid for my SL acct and probably haven't logged into it in over a year.

*shrugs* granted I got distracted by the shiny WoW but I just wasn't that impressed with SL

and stunts like this aren't helping the matter

We joined SL back when it was still $10 to create an account, and we upgraded to "paid" status when our in-game sales were high enough to merit it. But it just started going downhill, especially since they've been shaking things up on the corporate side of things, and stuff like this really isn't making us like them any more.

We would probably be into WoW if there were a way to make content ourselves, because that was the draw of SL. But eh, now I am just staying away from it all, I don't trust any of them.

I log into sl on a daily basis. I have no land now, but pay someone else to rent on there's. I had land once and it not worth the headaches. I did it as a learning experience and only held the land for short 3 months. I would not recommend getting land unless you can afford it or have spare money to throw away.

Yeah we used to be making enough in game to support it but now that we don't make that much in game we would rather revert and just have it be extra money in our pocket, you know? Granted I know why my personal character has stagnated there, it's because I just don't produce as much as I used to. Although that might change, now that we have the tablet PC I really like coloring things again and might pick it back up. Once I'm no longer busy... when ever that may be!! :)

We only really used it brefly last week to conference and poke fun at things. I'd rather get into wow, And crap like this should be enough to keep people away :/

Theoretically, I could file a dispute for the transaction through my bank, since we authorized the $9.xx charges but not the other ones. The question is, will they still feel entitled to that money and so take it through other means (L$ or otherwise)? Maybe, but Joe is going to e-mail them. He tried calling earlier today but the word he got was pretty much that they need written correspondence when dealing with stuff like this. So we'll see how it plays out.

any chance you can contact customer service and rant at them?

Yeah, Joe called and there was really nothing that the customer service reps could do about it. :\ He sent in a written request but they basically decided to point & laugh. >:C

This sort of stuff is why I will probably never be a landowner. I never have trusted LL. >>;;; 'course, I also don't do enough on SL to be able to pay for renting, so...

Yeah we were making enough that it was never an issue. Lesson learned, don't let the current LL regime get their hands on your credit card number. :D

I have been in SL for over 4 years now and really had no problems dealing with Linden Labs. I have alway been able to get a hold of them either on direct contact or phone. I do not look at SL as a game, but rather another sort of social network. I go to SL to escape the real life and pretend for awhile and chat with folks I have met at fur cons. LL is like any other big corp, you just have to go with the flow. crssafox , they respond to emails also. Just go to support.

Yeah we have been communicating with them, the phone rep was really nice and helpful but unable to actually help fix the situation, apparently it went above her head where Joe actually had to write to them concerning it. He basically got a response saying "nyah nyah we're not going to fix it." We're just upset that the land fees - while I agree should have been paid for - were not included in the "past due" amount so we were not aware that they were going to charge that amount to our credit cards also.

At least we have the L$ in our accounts now so we can cash it out via PayPal and basically get that money back. It's just kind of shady and underhanded and I wish they would do things differently. :(
