Because people have a limited time-frame to buy in, they spend more money faster. When you give people "too many choices" - You've got 12 hours on Friday and Saturday, and then most of the day on Sunday to make your decisions! - people are going to hesitate, and maybe not even buy much of anything. They're less likely to spend, because they have all the time in the world to do so.
That's what makes me the most nervous. Especially for people who have small items (like we do, or artists that have magnets or key chains or other little things on their tables) it is hard to tell right away if anything is actually missing. Then again I think Joe has a personal connection with every piece he sells so he can tell if someone's wearing something he didn't sell them. XD
Could you give your opinion (here or in a new post) on security in an open Dealer Room when a Dealer is away? I want to know your opinion and experiences on the subject. Thanks!
Are you referring to, if a dealer is working solo and they step away for a few minutes? Or are you talking about closing up shop early and just leaving?
Some cons I've had great experiences with con staff/security watching the rooms. I like best the conventions where a staffer (sometimes security, sometimes staff) walks the room every couple of hours and checks on the dealers to be sure they're okay. This gives dealers that don't have a partner-in-crimebusiness to help switch off at the table, a chance to grab a bite or to run to the restroom. It's just considerate, IMO. Though I do understand that a lot of conventions, especially smaller cons, don't have the resources to handle this sort of thing
