A big reading month for me. Lots of graphic novels and weird children's books that straddle graphic novels and illustrated stories (without being picture books).

**64. The Secrets of Tamarind (sequel to The Lost Island of Tamarind), by Nadia Aguiar. Juv Fantasy. 3.5 stars. Read ARC

65-66. Nightschool, Vols. 3-4, by Svetlana Chmakova. YA Graphic ( Read more... )

I can't wait to read The Girl Who..., such rave reviews from everyone who has read it. Lost and Found is wonderful, and Hereville was not at all what I expected but I liked it a lot.

Totally agree about the Evanovich books. I still love the characters, but stop already.

I've read a lot of good middle grade/YA graphic novels lately. Hereville was not what I expected either, and I think it'll be a hard sell in my library, but it's a quality story with an underused setting. Have you read Anya's Ghost? It's fabulous -- really creates a strong, distinctive character in Anya, a slowly growing spooky story, and it has excellent artwork. Lost and Found is beautiful and meaningful, but more melancholy and adult that I expected. I'd be so interested to know what kids think of Shaun Tan in general.

I haven't read Anya's Ghost, but just put it on a new book order. It's gotten great reviews. The Arrival is a really hard sell in my library. It seems to be one of those books adults like more than kids. I passed Lost and Found on to the art teacher so she could take a look. So much there for her to use with her students. Anyway, maybe his books are more like picture books for adults, if there is such a thing.
