I have not even heard of this book (I don't always hear about the ones for older teens) but it sounds really good. It sounds like maybe the humor offset the grimness of parts of it? Yes--it's not only you--I read my diaries from HS sometimes and cringe and wonder how I could have been so self conscious yet judgmental. Those are both things I still struggle with, truth be told. I really need to throw the diaries away in case I get hit by a truck tomorrow.

I love books--teen or adult--where misunderstandings come about because the characters can't accurately tell what others are thinking or feeling. Partly because of the angsty feel that gives a lot of YA books and partly because it seem so realistic to me. We really *can't* tell what others think and we make snap judgments that are often wrong. The Truth Trap books were like that, with awesome payoffs at the end when everyone hashed out all the issues and admitted how they really felt.

Great review!

I hope that if I get hit by a car or something, whoever tries to read my diaries will end up so bored that they will stop reading after a few pages and throw them out. I can't bring myself to get rid of them on my own. Maybe I should hide or bury them instead, or leave provisions in my will about burning them before anything else can be awarded.

Vibes has gotten mixed reviews from the teens I've talked with, but it continues to circ well. I really enjoyed it -- it was a nice change from teen fantasy trilogies and teen paranormal romances, too.

ETA: I can't find The Truth Trap at any of the libraries around here. I'll keep looking!

I had to get Truth Trap through ILL. Then I bought a copy on abebooks for $1.

There's only one library in our ILL system that has it, and it's a college library pretty far away (in Fort Collins). Weird, huh?
