Salvaging NaNoWriMo

Well, I'm at close to 13,500 words, so I don't think I can make it to 50,000 by the end of the month. I have five books to review (two just came the other day, surprising me) and for Thanksgiving I'm going home to Illinois and will finally see my whole family again for the first time in two years (three years?). Oh yay for seeing the whole family! I wish I could write. I mean, I can write, rather well, but I just don't have any ideas.

Somehow, reading books--even good ones--is a chore when you are under a deadline.

I find that this happens a lot when I'm reading under a tight deadline. Suddenly I don't want to read even when the books are actually quite good (and let's not even talk about when they're bad). But still, it's a great side job, and I love it; I just need not to let them pile up so much.

The worst thing, though, is that I have so little time for reading I want to do, like Nation, by Pratchett, for example. (c: I'll get to it eventually but it'll be way late. How is it? I've heard it's not like his other books as much.
