A couple of questions

Hanging around in Eljay land on Sundays is rather like loitering in a park next to your best friend's house during the last days of summer. I'm with cmonkatiekatie on the His Dark Materials Series. The other one is Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban. I recommend both of them for the same reason - they are utterly original and unique and I have never read anything else that is similar to either of them.

This would be me sneakily using work-based internet access while I still have it.... because I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to pimp the two books that I always recommend whenever anyone asks.

Sky Burial by Xinran. Simply one of the most beautiful books I have ever read.

Soul Mountain by Gao Xingjan. Complex, thought provoking and inspiring.

I have no suggestions to offer (my puny book collection is something I'm sure we'll talk about in the future). I just wanted to let you know I'm keeping this entry as 'books to be read' list.
