A bit longer than a calling card left on a silver tray

Hi there. Welcome to my intro post and my journal. I'm sure you have a question or two.

How about we address kennings first, eh?

Please call me T. [Or Teigh if we're being ridiculous AND formal.] That's what my sister, ravgonfly, named me and it's more accurate than my birth name by far. I've also been called 'Crow' 'round these parts, which is fine too. Though I'm more of a raven, complete with the nasal bump. :D

Three words that describe me:
Blackbird. Artist. Poet.

Three more:
Black-clad. Redhead. Tall.
[Okay, I cheated with the 'black-clad'. But it's TRUE.]

For the flisty take on this subject, I point you to my user info profile.

What you will find in this journal: I have a wide variety of folks on my flist - from both my birth siblings and my RL BFF, to people in a multitude of fandoms, to artsy, writerly folk who don't do fandom at all - and that diversity makes me very, very happy. I yammer a lot in my journal - as I believe that life prompts and supports all creative acts - and post my own writing when I can. That writing tends to be a mix of fannish stuff and original work, both prose and poetry. I love meta, though it's been sparse on the ground 'round here lately. If you want to ramble about theory, my journal is ALWAYS a safe place to do so. I'm trying to get into the habit of posting art here as well - so far there's been sculpture and assorted ink drawings. So you'll find art, writing, life and fandom - with side tangents into spirituality, meta, travel and mythology. But basically: if it's Shiney, it's fair game. :D

Oh, you should also expect picspams of museum trips, concrete dinosaurs and roadside attractions. Those tend to occur on Fridays, though they do appear as needed. Oh, and I tend to spam with poetry.

I support and actively encourage thread-jumping in my journal. I have the best flist ever! What could be better than awesome people meeting and making new friends? Very little, in my opinion. I want my LJ to carry a bit of a salon or coffeehouse vibe, so by all means, mingle. Oh, I should also state that I thread jump in my friend's journals as well. If that's something that makes you nuts, please let me know. I do realize your mileage may vary.

What you generally won't find in this journal: Discussions of politics or religion. My personal affiliations are liberal and pagan, and I'm open-minded and tolerant of other people's opinions. But I find that those two topics carry LOTS of wank and tend to end in flame wars and hurt feelings. And there's enough of that sort of thing on the internet without generating more here.

General RL stuff:

I'm older than you think I am and definitely older than I tend to behave. At the end of May, my eleven year marriage ended in divorce - my ex left right before Thanksgiving 2009, and I've been struggling to figure out how to live alone and discover the perimeters of my life since then. Roughly the same time that occurred, my job was down-sized, so I'm also in the process of looking for work and figuring out what I Want To Be, since I'm obviously never going to grow up. So if I come off as especially flaky right now, that's why.

Which is probably a good time to mention that I can be bad about replying to comments. This erratic replying is IN NO WAY an indication of my interest or appreciation. When I do comment, I tend to get wordy - that's generally a sign of serious flailing and respect on my part.

Here are some important folks mentioned 'round here:
ravgonfly -my sister, AKA D.A. AKA Combie.
hiyami_amano -my brother, fondly referred to as Moose.
I call our parents T-Madre and T-Padre, because it's my journal and I can.

bodhifox -AKA Cap'n Fox - my BFF.

Mr. Toast AKA Himself - that's my ex.

My residence: Grimbracken Flat, in Queen City, The Northlands.
[My parents and the Moose - and bodhifox- all live in the Midlands, which I talk about periodically too.]

Fandom stuff:

I'm very polyfannish and read widely; if I get into a fandom, it's minestill enjoy reading in it, especially if I dig the author. I honestly follow good writing more than anything else.

I read more than I comment - which is super lame, I know - and I am working on being more open about my squee. I love AUs - especially ones involving vampires, werewolves, super spies or the Old West. I tend to be slash-oriented, but again, will read good writing of any stripe. Especially epic adventure longfic. I LOVE that stuff. Did I say I love crossovers? Boy howdy, do I ever.

What else...

Well, I also LOVE links and research. My interests are wide-ranging; if you are excited about something, I want to know more, because passion of all kinds brings me joy. I'm a comic book geek - Vertigo being my label of choice [though Dark Horse is doing a fine job of wooing me currently] and the Bat family is my mainstream comic love. I am a sucker for redheads and drummers. Regular application of coffee, poetry, hugs and laughter are required for personal sanity maintenance. I love hyphens and bracketing my asides. When I get comfortable with people I give them nicknames.

I believe irony and the ability to mock/laugh at yourself is the only way to survive in our current paradigm. Censorship and ageism are automatic hot buttons. I believe that art and poetry can change the world. I struggle against my own prejudices over yuppies and baby boomers.

My flist intimidates me sometimes, because they are so damn talented. But I consider myself very lucky to be among such gifted folk [and yes, I mean YOU] and being around such talent inspires my own work as well. I love instigating and helping people work through their blocks. I have a twisted sense of humor, and am deeply morbid. I am, above all things, a Blackbird. Shiny things grab my attention, and I can always find room for them in my hoard. My favorite color is red, followed by green and purple. I love Green Day and Duran Duran equally. I think beauty can be found everywhere.

And I’m open to the most invasive of questions. :D

Any questions?
