TS: I Never Told You What I Did for a Living

Feb 26, 2009 22:35

TS info post is located here.

A/N: This is teeny and really should have been included with Part Two. It required additional wrangling, however. Sorry.

That last part!

No doubt Bob won't like to hear it, but it's exactly what he does need to hear, a sharp shock to cut through that apathy he's sinking into.

I really love the monsters you refer to, also. Especially the snaky soul-suckers. It gives me the creeps to think of them so close to Ray.

Andy Hurley doesn't pull his punches. Which is one of the reasons these two are friends. :) And yeah, this is pretty much exactly what Bob needs to hear, here.

Oh, I'm glad the monsters are working - it's tricky writing them. Aside from figuring out what stuff hunts where, there's the question of details. Those ladies are one of the major reasons this piece didn't get posted with the last section.

It gives me the creeps to think of them so close to Ray.
Bob was less than impressed with that situation too. Hence the recurring nightmares. :P

It unfurls in his dreams, taunting him with the worse memories from Europe

Poor Bob! Of course, he only got himself to blame but still.

the fights he couldn't defuse and Gee's increasingly erratic grasp on reality, blends with battles gone awry

The way you're combining these three things like that makes the time in Europe seem even worse than I'd imagined for some reason, I don't really know why.

the snakes in their hair visible only in their shadows [...] those snaky soul-suckers

Sort of like part-Medusas but with soul-sucking powers instead of turning-people-to-stone power, scary!! I wonder why they chose Ray, perhaps because he's got a big and beautiful soul? At least that's what I think he would have in this story.

Bob's dreams aren't the real problem.

Oh Bob, once again!

He's never belonged to anyone; it’s not a comfortable feeling. As much as he loves My Chem, he doesn’t want to give them everything.I wonder, did he see not belong anywhere as a freedom and not a lack before this? Or didn't he think of it at all? And of ( ... )

This is the section I've been referring to as the emo!Bob section. If this section had its own summary, it would be: Oh Bob, you silly wolf.

The way you're combining these three things like that makes the time in Europe seem even worse than I'd imagined for some reason, I don't really know why.

Maybe because it's nightmare stuff all smushed together? Parts of Europe were definitely hair-rising, but it wasn't a full-on horrid experience. We're just experiencing adventures with Bob's disgruntled subconscious. :)

These are Gorgon variants, yes.

I wonder why they chose Ray, perhaps because he's got a big and beautiful soul? At least that's what I think he would have in this story. It could be that they felt hair empathy. :D Kidding. This Ray has... well, he's got a bit of the Xander Harris patented demon magnetism working for him. Why? Well, I think you read that soul bit quite well. Though his general guitar-god self also has a ( ... )

Oh Bob, you silly wolf.

Awww, but even Bob, stolid and dependable as he may be, has a right to be a bit emo now and again I guess :-)

We're just experiencing adventures with Bob's disgruntled subconscious.

*snerk*

he's got a bit of the Xander Harris patented demon magnetism working for him

*giggle* Now I'm going to start thinking of Ray as a "nummy treat"!!

it also underlines the parallel tracks he and Frank walked

That's interesting because in some respects they're sort of opposites in their experiences.

I personally think it's an excuse to avoid eating vegetables on Bob's part, with the added advantage of annoying all the vegans/vegetarians he knows.

*snicker* Bob can be quite a little shit when he wants to :-D

*Frank* doesn't have a problem eating veggies [though the complete *lack* of meat in his diet causes him problems

I didn't even THINK of this! I wonder, will Bob say anything to him about it after he's found out what Frank is?

True - and he's not emo very often, either. Which, for me at least, is one reason this section's a little shocking.

Now I'm going to start thinking of Ray as a "nummy treat"!!

Hahaha! I hadn't carried the comparison out that far, but I fully approve of that thought!

That's interesting because in some respects they're sort of opposites in their experiences.

Good point. The similarity that struck me here was the shared importance of music.

Bob can be quite a little shit when he wants to :-D

Yes, yes he can. Which is something we see from RL Bob too, and something I find weirdly charming. :D

I didn't even THINK of this! I wonder, will Bob say anything to him about it after he's found out what Frank is?

Really? That's one of the fundamental ironies of Frank being Fianin. It's also why he's sick all the damn time. I really don't know how this topic is going to be addressed in TS; in PW, Mikey's the one that calls Frank on this.

I've been reading here for about three hours now. I just wanted to pause and say I really like this...

Thank you for saying so, and for reading, of course. :D

[And - by 'here' do you mean 'in my lj'?]

Yeah, in your LJ. I would have made more progress in those three hours, but I was doing other stuff at the same time, 'cause the internet is like that.

I really want to read the whole thing again from the beginning when I can pay more attention. I'm sure I missed things last night.

I blinked a lot at this, mostly because I didn't think there was three hours worth of reading *here*- the internet multitasking makes more sense. :D

I'm psyched that you're thinking about the re-read - there are a lot of holes in this still [as I rambled about yesterday ;)], but also the general feeling in the story itself is a hefty dose of WTF? No character really knows what's going on at this point. Which hopefully makes it entertaining rather than confusing.
