TS: I Never Told You What I Did For a Living

Mar 23, 2009 22:59

I thought I'd give your guys' LJs and in-boxes a break and post this properly, in *my* journal. :)

TS info post is located here.

A/N: This bit follows directly after the sections posted about Bob's first fight with a monster, in Iowa.

Oh my goodness. This verse.

You're showing the tension so well.

Bob can't tell if there's something about My Chem that draws predators in, or if he just hadn't noticed the danger in the larger tour setting

I'd imagine both come into play.

Despite the rumble of drums in his soul, it isn't Bob's place to make those kinds of decisions. He does what he can - chasing off the threats he could fight, but otherwise stayed close, letting them sleep on him - though, that's a self-serving action too. He curls up with them, the touch of their skin on his almost enough to convince him that he had an assured place here.

I love that whole thing, but ouch at knowing what's coming, and that he does have to leave and doesn't really have a place. Not yet.

The actual leaving scene broke my heart!

I'm going to take the cry of 'oh my goodness' as a good thing. :)

Yay for good tension! [I've read this section often enough that I actually can't *tell* if there's tension anymore. So again with the yay.]

I'd imagine both come into play.
Pretty much. But he *is* still trying to get his footing with all the weirdness, poor dear.

The whole having a place/being an outsider dynamic is a little brutal. Particularly when one considers that Bob hadn't thought about himself *as* an outsider until he met My Chem. He was lonely [hence the whole thing with The Used], but he didn't feel alone.

The actual leaving scene broke my heart!
It kinda broke Bob's too. :(
[Excellent!]

It's totally a good thing.

BOB!

You always have the ability to provoke emotinal reactions in your stories, and this one has me aching for Bob so much.

\o/

Yeah, he needs some serious love for all of the ouchiness.

The really sucky thing? It's *JAPAN* that My Chem's gone off to, without Bob. There's all sorts of craziness that's about to go down and Bob's on the other side of the *planet*.

it was never just Gee that needed protecting

Aw Bob, you really have a protection complex, don't you? It's not just protection that they need from you, you know. *squishes him*

it gives him the opportunity to track down answers he couldn't find on the road

But you're not telling us if he succeeded or not, evil woman :-)

Frank's probably the easiest to read [...] his scent's also the easiest to untangle

Is this because Frank's also Fianan or is it just because he's Frank?

Bob can't tell if there's something about My Chem that draws predators in

This set my thought away on a kind of tangent: I can see that My Chem burns so brightly that they draw the attention of all kinds of things but there are different ways of burning and right then it's a self-consuming sort of fire, they (and especially Gerard) need to learn to burn in another way.

Still, this pack - this BAND

Bob's totally thinking of them as his pack when he's not consciously correcting himself.

Bob leaves because he has to, because he can't stay. For all that he wants ( ... )

He really does, silly dear. *squishes him too* I think part of the reason for that is timing - the first monster fight and meeting Gerard are linked together in his brain. And also? Bob's not so great at navigating the other stuff.

But you're not telling us if he succeeded or not, evil woman :-)
>:D
Well, he *does* find Hurley, so signs point to yes.

Is this because Frank's also Fianan or is it just because he's Frank?

Yes. :D

Regarding your My Chem burning so brightly thought: YES EXACTLY. Finding more productive uses of that fire is critical [especially for Gerard, as you noted]. They also need to figure out how to *protect* that fire, which is a lot more difficult in this environment.

Bob's totally thinking of them as his pack when he's not consciously correcting himself.Yup, he really is. There's a perpetual inner chorus of mineminemine that he doesn't even register anymore ( ... )

It seemed to be a natural conclusion to the question of why they drew predators like that :-) And yeah, the fire must be protected, it's important!

He occupies a strange place in Bob's internal order anyway. Bob knew Brian first; they both sit outside of the group [currently]; there's a definite Alpha flavor to Brian.

I've been thinking a bit about Brian and where he fits into things. He's got a lot of the characteristics of an Alpha but he doesn't have a pack to be Alpha for. He's really an outsider to the goups he manages and he's both their employer and employee, it must be a very tricky position.

they are only *starting* to get their acts together while touring The Black ( ... )

Muhahaha! >:D

Well, *I* think it's a natural conclusion, but am delighted to find you think so too. And that specific metaphor of fire/burning is ridiculously apt. That fire is *terribly* important!

Regarding the question of Brian: He, quite possibly, has the roughest time out of everyone in the MCR camp. Sure, the band is being non-communicative with each other and privately angsty, but in the end [as we know] they pull together. They have each other; Brian...well, Brian doesn't. Because yeah, you're right - he's on the fringes, despite being the go-to dude.

Avoidance is a very human characteristic :-)
Yeah, too bad that the two worst offenders ARE NOT HUMAN. *knocks Fianan skulls together*
[I perfer to huff, rolls my eyes and say 'Boys!' in scornful tone. :D]

The discussion makes me so happy! It also continues to crack open the story, which very exciting. \o/ indeed!
