This was not the poem I intended to post today. But, I started with goosebumps and finished re-reading in almost tears, so...

~Neil Gaiman

Touch the wooden gate in the wall you never

saw before.

Say "please" before you open the latch,

go through,

walk down the path.

A red metal imp hangs from the green-painted

front door,

Beautiful.

It was interesting, I was scrolling through my flist and reading the syndicated feed from Wil Wheaton's blog about Neil Gaiman and then hit your post. I had to scroll back up to see who I had been reading.

*hugs*

It's a good un, yeah.

Have you not read Gaiman before? He has his own blog/website, and posts some of his short stories/ poems - including a piece of basically crossover fanfiction, that's Sherlock Holmes-Lovecraft. I'm a pretty big fan. I'll have to check out Wheaton's blog. :)

I haven't, but I'll have to check it out. It was mostly that I had two out of three or four posts about him and I lost track of what I was reading. Well... I didn't, but I thought I had. Something like that.

It's an interesting blog. From the Trekker's perspective at least. I gave one of the sister's one of his books for her birthday and she said it was really good.

Here's the link to his site:

And I do encourage you to check out his work - I think you will appreciate the way he thinks and the way he writes. I've certainly learned a lot from him. :)

I've read an entry or two of Wheaton's blog in the past -stuff other flisters have linked to - and he seems pretty hilarious.

Hey, no worries - you're not rambling. Like I attempted to say at beginning of this post: I find this poem to be potent, and it reaches right into my emotional guts. Unsettling is a good, accurate adjective for it, definitely. And I'm glad you said something. :)

I love Neil Gaiman. It's been a slowly building love affair and you've just given me another layer for it. Thank you. *smooch*

Gaiman is *amazing*. Weren't you just reading 'Anansi Boys'? There's been very, very little of his work that I haven't adored [I was not so in love with 'Stardust', but I think it prolly translated best in its original format, that of a graphic novel], and his short work is especially fine.

And you are most welcome, my dear. *Mwah!*
[There's another poem, about Goldilocks and the Three Bears that I think you might also enjoy...]

I was! That's been my introduction to solo Gaiman (after reading Good Omens). I've been reading his blog :)

I'm slowly working on reading more (time's always an issue). Part of the problem now is that I don't just want to check them out of the library; I want them for my own. So I'm approaching the addiction slowly.

(Oh? I'd love to read it then. He's very prolific.)
