One more n00b question

Is there a way to use PayPal or a similar service to handle transactions without having to reveal my legal name to everyone I know through fandom/LJ?

Damn right. That's what Paypal DOES. All the customer sees is whatever email address you gave Paypal.

I'm not sure that even Paypal knows your name. It just wants your bank account number to send money to. Has some other ways to get your money to you, like its own credit/debit card, dunno about those.
