Beckett decided to leave her suitcase at the top of the main staircase. No sense lugging it around from room to room. If there was an empty bedroom, she could just go back for her luggage later. She was half-way down a hall when she spotted someone duck into a room. Her detective's instincts went on high alert.
Ooh, Spidey-senses! Castle's voice echoed in her head. Beckett rolled her eyes, determined not to miss his annoying, if albeit charming, presence. Not for the first time, she wished she'd brought her gun

Abby nearly jumped out of her skin when the smooth voice echoed off the walls. Spinning around, her eyes settled on a woman she'd never met. She quickly blinked away the tears in her eyes in favor of staring at her coldly. Abby no longer trusted anyone she didn't know in this place. Anyone could be why Alex was missing. ...Dead.
"I was about to go to the kitchen. And you are...?"
Usually friendly, her tone was anything but. Who was this woman? Abby admittedly did not know everyone at the castle, but she had seen the majority of faces at the dance. She even took the time to commit each one to memory too. Shifting back and forth on her feet, the girl looked decidedly nervous.
"Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD," she answered automatically. "At least I was until I landed here this morning."
Beckett unfolded her arms and took a step towards the other girl. She could see tears in her eyes as though she'd been crying. And though Beckett was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, her nervous shuffle made her suspicious.
"Mind if I ask, who are you and what were you doing in that room?"
Normally Abby would have been happy to find another member of law enforcement. However, she felt suspicious of practically everyone these days. With two unknown murders on the prowl, Abby couldn't be too careful. Eying the woman with a distrustful expression she considered her answer.
"I'm a forensic specialist."
It was a simple answer that implied a response to both parts of her questions. Abby was unwilling to respond further. Her lips were pursed together as she watched Beckett.
