Alex huffed down the hallway, her mind reeling with the conversation she'd had with Annie the night before.

It was too much to think about, this castle and everything that had come with it. And her head was pounding, and even the stone cold mug of tea in her hand hadn't done anything for the effects of a hangover.

She noticed the door open and her breath caught - there were certainly a number of people she didn't want to see today who could be wandering about the castle, and the thought had been so daunting she almost didn't get out of bed. So she watched the person come in, heaving a sigh of relief when it was a face she didn't recognise.

"Hello," she offered.

Martina's head jerked up then, no doubt lost in how she was going to explain this to her boyfriend when she got home, and smiled slightly.

"Hello," she said with her usual 'I'm cheerful until you irritate me' cheerfulness. "You don't by chance know who I'm supposed to talk to here, do you? I'm Detective Inspector Landen, South Wales Police."

Alex's mouth curved into the tiniest smile; another female copper, and a DI to boot. Gene would lose his mind if this kept up. And, at this point, that would be something she would encourage.

"DI Alex Drake, London," she replied. "And there's not exactly anyone you're specifically meant to speak to here... We're all just stuck here, I'm afraid."

"Stuck here? You can't be serious." And Martina's head turns back to the door, as if reconsidering this. Her partners and her boyfriend are counting on her. "I'm here looking for information about a terrorist bombing in Cardiff Bay."

Abby thought of her own Tony when the other lady spoke. Though they were in no way romantic, that did not lessen her aching heart. She missed all of her friends terribly. Sighing, she shook her head a bit. Back to the present Abby! she thought, mentally scolding herself.

"I've spent a fair amount of time in the last few weeks doing just that. I even found cars that someone has provided us. Logic would dictate that we must be on an island or more than a tank's worth of gas from anywhere useful or they wouldn't have bothered?"

Looking towards Alex, she hoped for some additional information. Abby had been there long enough in her own mind but she was fully aware that Drake had far more experience with this place under her belt.

Alex frowned, watching both the women. She felt for them both - they were all so far away from home, and it was strange for Alex to suddenly be surrounded by so many misplaced people instead of being the only one. If nothing else, that had kept her sane in 1981, being with people who knew their place in the world. And here, she's even lost that minute comfort.

"There are cars?" Alex said, surprised. Shrugging, she shook her head. "It wouldn't matter anyway, from what I understand of this situation. My boss, DCI Hunt," she took a moment to try to cover any emotion in her voice that might come with his name, "informed me there's some kind of barrier around the castle grounds. I doubt a automobile would make any difference if we are meant to be trapped here."

"Someone's a sadist, whoever's doing this," Martina said. "I'd love to see my boss right now. Hell, I'd even like to see my partner. Tony may be a pain in my ass, but he's my pain in the ass, and this is all his fault anyway."

Alex covered the hint of an ironic smirk; after all, she certainly hadn't expected what might as well be the entirety of CID showing up at the castle, and sometimes she wished they hadn't. At that same time, she was comforted by being surrounded with a certain amount of familiarity, a luxury that neither Martina or Abby had. And, well, to be fair, they were her pain in the arse, too.

"They may be a sadist," Alex agreed, "But there has to be some kind of reason why we're here. I can't imagine it's just for the sick pleasure of whoever our captor is. I hope not, anyway."
