For once, Jack followed a few paces behind Ianto with his hands in his pockets, greatcoat flowing behind him. They needed to have this talk, but that didn't mean that Jack was looking forward to it either. He was worried about just what Ianto had to tell him. If he was here previously, things would have happened... things he didn't know about any longer. Jack didn't like living in the dark, but that's where he was forced to live right now.

Jack ran a hand through his hair and rolled his shoulders, trying to relax. Neither of them worked well when it came to discussing emotional things or anything uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this conversation was both of those things.

He looked over the cottage as they approached. It wasn't exactly a place he would have imagined for Ianto, but it was a roof over his head. He entered the cottage and slid his coat from his shoulders, tossing it over the back of a chair.

"...Well."

What else was there to say, really?

Ianto hesitated once they were inside and the door was shut. He wasn't quite sure where to start with all this. "I...I'm sorry for the way I acted back there. I need to get it in my head that you're not the same Jack that was here. What do you want to know?"

He sat down on the couch, figuring he might as well get comfortable, this was bound to be a long chat. After all, he'd been stuck here for well over a year at least. A lot had happened in all that time.

Jack nodded, accepting the apology for what it was. He always loved when Ianto showed his teeth, but usually they wound up in bed together almost immediately thereafter. This, however, was different. He didn't understand why Ianto was so standoffish. Usually Ianto would wrap himself up in Jack's arms after the kiss he gave him earlier, and they'd only emerge when they were sticky and sated.

This was... so very different.

He remained standing, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Tell me what I need to know."

"To be honest, I'm not quite sure where to start. I've been here for well over a year. It could even be closer to two. I kind of lost track after a while. Some of the others from the team were here for a while as well, before they all seemed to disappear." He really didn't know what to bring up, it was difficult trying to think of what to say to Jack about the Jack that had been here before. He just wanted to forget about it all and start over again. But that just wasn't possible. And with Jack keeping his distance it was making this even harder.

"We spent time together occasionally. More so when we first got here. After a while though, you kept busy with other things...other people..." Ianto trailed off. He knew Jack had spent a lot of time with John, due to the fact that John would tell him about it. He was sure there were probably other people as well, but he didn't know the details of that, really.

Jack turned his head to the side for a moment, pressing a light kiss to Ianto's inner thigh, then returned his head to the original position. He had always been a sucker for someone touching his head (the one on his head. Perverts) and this was absolutely no exception. At least there was something comforting, though Jack knew it would take a day or two for him to find his footing, at least he could hide away with Ianto for a few days.

Given the lack of contact between the other him and his lover, this was probably a good thing.

"So... what happens back home?" Jack asked softly. "Do I get to come back to an irate Gwen, ready to hang me up by my balls for running off and not telling her? And if I left before you departed for here... an irate you as well?"

Ianto tensed slightly as he felt the light kiss on his thigh, it was a bit unexpected, he relaxed again quickly though. Remembering that this was a different Jack. He continued to move his fingers through Jack's hair, letting his hand come to rest of the back of Jack's neck, caressing it slightly.

"I don't know, really. It's been quite a long time since I've thought of home. I've been stuck here for a while, this place and all the goings on here have kept me busy. Which I suppose is a good thing, but every now and then I do miss Cardiff."

Sitting (or rather, kneeling) where he was, Jack could feel the minute shifts in Ianto's body. Thus, he felt Ianto stiffen when he kissed him there. God, how bad had things been between Ianto and his other self. And, as a result, what relationships had he crafted that were now, no longer, going to happen.

Was it only a matter of time before lover after lover beat down his door? Jack shuddered. That happened once in 1912 and once was more than enough for anyone.

"Christ, Ianto. You still flinch at my touch. Just how bad was it between you and my DopelGanger?"

Ianto sighed quietly, knowing that Jack would have felt him tense up. He hated feeling that way around Jack. He just wished there was an easy way to get used to him wanting to be around again, that this was a different Jack, that things might be different this time around.

"It...wasn't bad, just...I'm not used to this anymore. He put so much distance between us. It's just been a long time since I was around anyone like this. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to react like that."

Jack moved an arm to encircle Ianto's shoulder and pull him in close. It was starting to feel more natural but he knew it would take some time before they got back to how they once were. Jack also knew he'd have to work through whatever had happened between Ianto and his previous self.

However, the fact that Ianto was resting against him, Jack took to be a good sign. A very, very good sign.

"Shall we go to bed, then?" Jack asked softly, turning his head to kiss Ianto's temple. "And just... to bed. We can start with the sex soon. Not pressing for that just yet. Not until you're ready."

Ianto leaned into Jack more, as he was pulled in close. Glad that the awkwardness between them was fading. It would certainly take time before they were back to how they'd been, but this was progress.

"Yeah, bed sounds good. We'll get around to having sex soon enough. Right now, I'd just like to go to sleep with you holding me." Ianto responded, quietly.

The awkwardness was fading, thankfully, and Jack was glad for that. There was still a bit of distance between them, but it was getting better. And, hopefully, as the days went on it would get better and better.

Jack tilted his face up, lightly brushing his lips across Ianto's. He sighed softly, drawing Ianto in closer. "That can certainly be arranged. You want me clothed or not? I don't want to be too much of a distraction. Especially on my first night here."

"Either is fine with me, honestly. It's up to you." Ianto responded, resting his head on Jack's shoulder. Slowly becoming more at ease with this new Jack.
