Things had been beyond weird ever since Buffy got here. At times she wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't anymore. How could people say that she had been here before? How could she think that she saw Spike the one night, even talked to him on the phone, but then he was just gone. She must have imagined the whole thing - those drinks where very strong that night. That, or someone was pretending to be Spike. Buffy just didn't know anymore what was going on.
The blonde slayer decided to explore the castle and hopefully get her mind off of some things when she heard a familiar voice. It couldn't be, could it? She thought to herself as she just stood there. Whoever it was, they said more and it sounded exactly like him....
Buffy headed towards the castle entrance with much caution. She just couldn't believe that it was actually Spike, this had to be another game or trick. But, as soon as she poked her head around the corner, she saw the vampire standing there.
"Spike?" She questioned as she walked towards him. "It can't be....."
Spike turned and stared at the Slayer for a moment without speaking, absolutely dazed by her appearance regardless of the fact that he'd been looking for her.
He didn't want this. Didn't want to still be in love with her. Part of him had even thought maybe those feelings were fading away because of the months apart. Apparently, that part of him had been dead wrong. Only four words from her, three of which weren't even directed at him, and already he knew he'd walk straight into a pit of fire if she asked him to.
Not that he planned on telling her that.
Adopting an air of indifference, he lifted an eyebrow and said, "Got a message, said you needed me. Judging from the look on your face, guessing it wasn't you that sent it. So what's the what? Dawn in trouble? New kind of demon or hell god...?" His eyes scanned the room. "Spooky castle?"
She just stood there and tried to take in his sight. "Is that really you?" She stepped towards him. " know it looks like you, it's just, you were died." She shook her head as she thought about him dying.
"Wait, did you just get here?" Now it was hitting her, if he just got here, then whoever she talked to the other day couldn't be him. "I talked to you the other day. At least I thought I did, they sounded just like you and claimed to be you."
That was almost too ironic that he got a message saying that she needed him. If this was before, she'd roll her eyes and tell him that she didn't need him for anything. Part of her still wanted to do that, it was just something she was used to doing. But, right now, with everything that was going on she couldn't just yet.
Buffy was talking nonsense. But she did that from time to time, he remembered, so he wasn’t overly concerned.
“Haven’t talked to you since...” he said, then trailed off as memories welled up in his mind. “Well, never mind that. Dunno who you chatted up, but it wasn’t me. Think someone’s been playing with your head. And now I’m wondering if someone’s playing with mine. You sure you’re the Slayer? Haven’t yelled or punched me in the nose yet, so you can see why I might be confused.”
