Cia watched the helicopter take off, shielding her eyes against the sun. When it was out of sight, she turned and looked around very carefully, taking in all the details. She supposed this could be Spain. She didn't much know what Spain was supposed to look like. She looked for her mentor, but couldn't see her--or anyone. Oh well, maybe something had come up and she'd be around later.
Untroubled, Cia lifted her bag and pulled out her cigarettes, lighting one. She headed toward the castle, curious about this turn of events. She hadn't expected to hear from Inés again, because in Cia's experience, once you said goodbye to someone, that was it. So her note had been a welcome surprise.
She didn't bother leaving a note for her foster parents, though she had mailed a letter to her DCFS caseworker, telling her the very basics of the situation. She actually liked her caseworker. She knew Cia was apathetic at best toward most of her foster families, and understood. Apparently, she'd grown up in The System herself, which gave her a great sympathy to many of her charges. But all that was past now. Cia was no longer in New York, and would never go back. So much the better!
She let herself into the castle and looked around curiously. 'Hello? Inés? You here?' she called.
