The afternoon was a peaceful time for a walk, and Lawrence was mid-way through his leisurely pace back to the village when he heard a terrible scream echoing in the distance. People seemed to always be screaming here and his proximity to this particular ordeal offered some relief from the monotony of his day. He flinched only once with hesitation before making long strides through the woods. It wasn't long before he came upon a woman distressed on the ground; a great white horse loomed above her. "Out of the way!" he ordered, voice shrill. He didn't wait for compliance, and reached for the holster on his belt.

Edie scrambled toward the nearest tree, and used it to help pull herself back to her feet.

The unicorn whinnied again, almost more of a scream. It brandished it's horn toward her, but before it had a chance to charge somebody else caught it's attention. Both Edie and the unicorn turned toward Lawrence at the same time.

"Help me!" Edie screamed toward him. The unicorn just snorted, threateningly.

This horse looked remarkably like a unicorn, but that wouldn't stop Lawrence from shooting it dead. He raised the pistol into the air and fired a warning shot, then cocked the hammer back again. The piercing sound of the bullet sent a twitch through every muscle in the horse's body and it stumbled back in panic.

When Edie saw the opportunity, she ran quickly toward Lawrence. She could hear hoof beats in the distance, but she wasn't sure which direction it was moving. She ducked behind Lawrence, figuring he could keep the unicorn at bay if it decided to charge after them. Edie panted to catch her breath. "Thank...you..." she managed to say to him.

The unicorn moved back again, but then turned to face them squarely. It lowered it's head, and pawed at the ground like a bull ready to charge.
