I e-petitioned. I didn't know about this, but until two days ago SOPA was going over my head too.

Thank you for e-petitioning. I did, too - I have been aware of ACTA for two years, now, when I first learned of thjs planned "Trade Agreement", but I had not been aware how far they had come, already. there had been a lot of protest against it when the public came aware of the plans last year, and there were some small amendments to the text in response... but then the protest died down, and the circles who negotiated about the agreement just kept negotiating. It*s infuriating how they try to smuggle this through in secrecy without much public interference! XC

I totally agree.

I wasn't aware of ACTA.
It's scary how legislators feel free to act behind the backs of the public who elected them.

Hi, Scarlet! Yep, the whole ACTA negotiations have happened behind closed doors, and the public has been made aware of the text only through a leak last year or so. There was a protest storm and the text got some amendments, that may or may not have survived. And then the negotiating circles just kept negotiating.

Secret negotiations = lobbyists of the content industry get to put their ideas and demands in; we the public are kept out of the discussion, until it is too late to influence the thing, and then - Voila!

Infuriating.
