There are certain things that Felicia likes to keep to herself. Her secrets, her own private victories and follies. Even the best liars have certain tells, little things that give them away if people are willing to look hard enough. She has been lying for so many years that her tells are quickly fading. The only one that remains is the way that her ( Read more... )

Without even realizing it, Sawyer's started to collect secrets. A whole bunch of them, carefully tucked away where he won't even have to dwell on the bunch, because the more he thinks, the looser his lips get, the more his eyes start looking out for those people trying to live new lives on the island, who want to throw away the old. There's the girl who was on fire. The girl running from the woman with button eyes ( ... )

Her secrets are her own. She's made a living out of knowing other people's secrets. Of holding onto them, using them or tucking them away until they're needed. Sharing isn't something Felicia's ever done very well (that's the only child in her) and when it comes to her own private truths she is worse than most.

Taking a series of deep breaths, to both regain her composure and put an end to her panting, she rests her hands on her hips and sizes him up. Someone might mention that it is only fair that he knows something real about her in exchange for her knowing something about him. Her mind barely flits to Sawyer on most days, her avoidance based mainly on instinct. She had wanted to rescue the poor little boy. To spare him the pain that she had gone through.

Played like a fool. "Hey." She licks her lips. This isn't something she knows how to do. "That's a new one."

A moment passes before she says what feels like it has been dying on the tip of her tongue. "No one knows."

It's kind of funny, he's not sure whether or not she means that she's kept his secret, or if she's asking whether or not he's held hers under wraps. The thing is, though, Sawyer's been operating under the assumption that both are true. And if that isn't the case, so what? His secret has bled out in a million ways by now thanks to the interventions of this island, has left people who hardly know him at all with the deepest secrets from his life. At this rate, anyone can find out. And he's not going to fight it, because if the island's contrary at all, well. It won't take kindly to Sawyer trying to skirt its rules ( ... )

Oddly enough, she meant both. Felicia isn't one to spill secrets that don't belong to her unless there is a pretty pricetag attached. Even then she's more likely to slip a few lies in there before committing to anything real. It is an extension of her already strongly developed defensive mechanism. There is nothing that says that her own secrets can't be easily found out or spilled if she starts sharing some of the bigger ones that belong to other people.

Blowing upwards, she blows her white blonde fringe off her forehead and gives a conciliatory nod. "Fair enough." She can't explain it, but she feels a bit caged. Like she's been caught in one of her own traps.

"Yours is safe with me. Like you said, who would I tell?" Kicking a pebble, she looks at the ground for a moment before looking at him. "Just so we're all fine and nice, I should tell you that I'm fighting a strong instinct to punch you in the face."
