Summary: Maia tries to make Tonks a cake
Tonks came into the small flat and smelled the smoke. "Maia?" She called out coughing.
There was a loud beeping from the muggle smoke detector Maia had insisted on for the flat.
She entered the kitchen after opening some windows to find Maia hitting the smoke alarm with
the end of Tonks broomstick. Smoke was pouring out of the oven and tears streamed down Maia's
cheeks from the smoke stinging her eyes.
"Stupify." Tonks said aiming a spell at the alarm that froze in its shrill warning.
Maia was coughing going over to the window in the kitchen to open it to let the smoke out.
Tonks fanned her face and looked at Maia. "Problem?"
Maia was still coughing and wiping at her eyes. "I tried to make you a cake."
Tonks blinked, "You made me a cake?" She smiled very pleased by this.
"I did but I don't know what happened. It's a magical oven and I don't think it understood me. And
now it's burned and the flat is full of smoke. I ruined your birthday surprise."
"You made me a cake." Tonks said again in a very pleased voice. "That is so sweet."
Maia laughed through her coughing. "I wanted it to be special."
Tonks came over to Maia at the counter and hugged her, pressing a soft kiss to her lips she whispered,
"It is special."
"I have frosting." Maia said pointing to the little bowl on the counter. "I bet it tastes like smoke now."
Tonks dipped her finger into the frosting, still keeping her other arm around Maia. She tasted it slowly
and smiled, "Smokey chocolate. It's perfect." She held out her finger for Maia to taste.
Maia leaned forward and tasted some of the frosting and frowned, "It's terrible."
Tonks laughed and pulled her finger back, licking away the rest of the frosting she kissed Maia again.
"Well come on, lets at least have my presents." She led Maia through the kitchen and into the dining room still laughing.
