Title: Found a Balance

Author: Lil Jei

Fandom: Supernatural & BTVS

Pairing: Xander/Dean

Rating: PG

Wd Ct: 400+

Disclaimer: The boys and the shows are so not mine.

A/N/Summary: Dean has finally found home. The slash is there, but it is very subtle. And the fic is un’beta’d and if I’m being honest I have no idea where this came from. Totally AU for both series…just imagine the two men happily together and fighting evil too.

He'd een hard at work for the last couple of hours. Start, stop, switch, yield, restart, he’d press the buttons in and out all damn day. Even his thumbs hurt at the end of his shift. It was the life of the factory worker that just got to him some days.  But if he was honest it was the life he’d chosen. Would he ever choose differently was the question, the answer coming back to him was simple, not while he and Sam were on the run…and maybe not even then.

They both could have been someone different. Had their mom not died, their dad not trained them, and so on. Both their lives were full of what ifs and false hopes.  Dean could have made a killing as a mechanic and Sam as a lawyer. But as it always does, life had interrupted them. But for the last year or so it had been different-somewhat. They had settled down into this sleepy little town by day and still fought the nightlife, but this time with other people at their backs.

When they had first mentioned it Bobby had been against them moving here, telling them all about the nightly trauma that would happen in Sunnydale. But nothing could stop Dean, or for that matter Sam when they were determined. And Sunnydale had certainly their eye. They’d been passing through when Sam had, had one of his visions. Demons and swirling pools of hellish images was all that Dean had to know before he decided it was past time to settle in a bit. Bobby had his place; the other hunters they knew did as well. Well why not call Sunnydale home and try to make a difference.

And making a difference was the name of the game; well at least when work wasn’t and nighttime came. Other than the nightly hunt, Dean’s life was pretty boring. He’d punch the buttons all day, and then he’d go home to his sweaty construction worker, get a kiss or a grope in, just in time for the sun to set and the hunt to start. Then he’d do it all over again the next day, and the next after that.  It might be boring and a little tough on the body but maybe it was him just getting old. Old, yeah that was the excuse of why he’d switched teams, dropped the drinking, and had a steady job. Or maybe he didn’t just settle down, maybe if he was honest between the starts and stops of life he had finally found the balance. Himself, love, and something to be treasured now, life.
