Summary: In 1998, Hogwarts is under the control of the Death Eaters, and Junior Death Eater Gregory Goyle sees the oddest thing in the sky one night.

Gregory Goyle was not the sharpest wand in Ollivander’s.  But dear Gregory did not let this limit his future, no, for at this very moment, he was a member of the Death Eaters, and under the mantle of the Dark Lord, the wizarding world was soon to be theirs and the so-called Order of the Phoenix could do nothing to stop them. So, in short, life was good.

At the moment there were no muggles to kill or mudbloods to torture, so Gregory headed up the staircases of Hogwarts to the Astronomy Tower.  His master thought it important that his minions be educated, especially after the Dish Incident.  And in the interest of escaping the meeting without being the recipient of a Cruciatus Curse, Gregory had nodded his head and went along with his master’s plans.  That evening, Mars was in just the right position, and the stars were aligned just precisely for…. well he was not quite sure what for, but it seemed important enough for him to spend the next several hours peering through a telescope at a bunch of bright dots in the night sky.

Two hours later, Gregory had charted four constellations and drawn a lovely picture of a unicorn when he caught sight of the most unusual thing.  Squinting through the brass telescope, he saw a pyramid in the sky, floating there as if someone was levitating it among the stars. He looked around. There wasn’t anyone around with a wand out, so he rubbed the lens of the telescope and peered through it again.  It was still there, hanging serenely in the sky.

Well, this was something quite unexpected and Gregory was not sure what to do.  So he lapsed back on what he always did when he had a question: he went to Malfoy.  Trudging down the Tower stairs and walking through the darkened halls filled with magical portraits snoozing in their frames, Gregory entered the Slytherin common room and headed for the Seventh Year Boys dormitory.  Walking over to the four-poster bed Draco Malfoy was sprawled out upon, wheezing softly in his sleep. Gregory leaned over and poked him.  And poked him again.  Finally after several hard pokes, Malfoy groaned and muttered in a half-awake voice, “What is the bloody matter?”

“There’s some kind of pyramid in the sky, Malfoy, what should I do?”

“I don’t know! Go away, I’m trying to sleep!”

With this declaration, Malfoy rolled over and went back to sleep.  Gregory tried to rouse him again but Malfoy just threw a pillow at him and proceeded to ignore him.

Without a better idea, Gregory marched back through the hallways and up the Tower stairs.  He peeked through the telescope and noted that yes, the inexplicable floating Egyptian funereally monument was still there.  Gregory spent the next hour wondering what to do next.  Should he go tell someone else?  Crabbe?  No, Crabbe would probably not know what to do either.  Bellatrix?  No, she frightened Gregory and he was not interested in waking her.  The Dark Lord?  Most definitely not!  Surely this was not very important.

Pondering the pyramid before him, Gregory was stunned to see it suddenly explode!  Blinking several times, Gregory leaned forward again and peered through the telescope, raking the skies with his eyes.  He could not catch sight of the golden pyramid, only seeing an ever-expanding cloud of debris.

A smile suddenly split his face as Gregory realized that his puzzling problem was solved without any effort on his part.

That night Gregory Goyle went to bed and as he fell asleep, his mind was unburdened with the knowledge that if it was not for an intrepid groups of muggles with machine guns and grenades, his master would have had some competition.
