Daisy gave Tara a smile, though she suspected it didn't quite reach her eyes. She was still upset about John's reaction to her concern for him. She was just trying to protect him! (Men!) she thought. (Pride was the surest way she knew to get yourself killed.)

Her head was still muzzy, she couldn't manage to get her shields up, and everything was brighter and more vivid than usual. She felt Tommy just outside the shelter, and the way his magic was earth based too, although different from hers.
"Tommy, take my hand," she called out to the young man, hoping to share this energy with him as well.

Tommy knelt beside her. "Hey, sleepyhead." Her lips formed a small smile. "If you insist, but I think you need the energy more than me." He took her hand.

Finally, sensing that he was restored, she let the energy go, and at last used some of it to start to replenish her own resources. Still, she kept hold of Tommy's hand.
"I-I can't," she said weakly to him, "I can't get my shields back up... everything is so bright." Tommy could see that she was flinching from the light, even though it was dim in the shelter.

Tommy frowned. He had no idea what to do. If he had shields up, he didn't even know he was doing it. Worried, Tommy held Tara's hand in both of his. "Do you just need food? John and Daisy are on their way."

Still speaking softly, but not so weak now, she said, "Oh, that's better. Thank you Tommy. I don't know what went wrong, but I just couldn't pull myself together." She glanced warily at the ground. "Maybe it's the energy in the island, not like the usual earth based energy."
She sighed and sat up straight. "That's kind of John and Daisy to get food, I think that's what we both need now."

Then Tara fainted. Locke, Daisy, Daniel, and Jon rushed over to her. Thankfully Tommy knew what to do. When he asked for food for him and Tara, Locke volunteered to get some. He was glad that Daisy wasn't too upset with him to not walk with him.
"Tommy's a witch," Locke said wonderingly as they made their way to the cookfire.
"A warlock," Daisy corrected.
Locke smiled fondly at her. "A warlock." He thought about their brief altercation not long ago, and his smile faded. "I'm sorry that I snapped at you. You have to understand, Daisy. I've been given a second chance here. I'm going to take risks. They're mine to take. I'll do my best to choose wisely."

Upon reaching the cookfire they were bombarded with questions. "What was that light?"
"Is Tara okay?"
"What was she doing?"
"What happened to the prisoners?"
(Daniel was right. The fallout from Tara's spell could get ugly,) Locke thought solemnly. He wished the soldier/diplomat were here to field the questions. Locke intended to tell them the truth, but knew he didn't have the skill to present it gently like Daniel could. Finally he told the group, "Tara's fine. She's resting and needs some food. Daisy and I will bring some to her, then come back to answer your questions."
He and Daisy gathered several pieces of fruit and walked to Tara's shelter, leaving the group around the cook fire muttering amongst themselves.
