Where: Med Lab, Medical Facility
When: Day 23, very late evening
Status: Incomplete
Rose awoke to several dull throbbing aches. A vast improvement over rippling, all encompassing agony. She could deal with that.
Her head was pounding in time to her heart beat, but it didn’t feel like her brain was ripping itself apart. Both of her arms ached at her inner elbows, and that dull twinge that came from keeping ones arms straight out for too long.
She opened her eyes and wasn’t instantly blinded.
“Bout time you woke up. Sleep your life away.” The Doctor was grinning at her from the side of the bed, but his eyes betrayed him. He was worried, or had been.
“Wha’ ‘appened? I remember Daniel sayin’ he was gonna let some of the prisoners go… then… a hell of a migraine. There was that singin’ again. An’ don’t tell me you sang a song, again. Didn’t fall for it last time.” She tried to sit up but found gentle hands on her shoulders.
“Stay down. Your blood is still bein’ filtered. Just about an hour more and we can disconnect you.”
Rose looked down to see the IV lines full of blood inserted into either arm.
“That isn’t good.” She muttered.
“No, it’s fantastic. We… Rodney, Damon, Jack and I figured out how to disable the nanogenes. They had kicked in again. We shorted them out. House and Scott kept ‘em busy fightin’ an infection so they wouldn’t do any more rebuilding and stay at full power so we could send a wave of electricity through ‘em.” The Doctor was grinning full on now, even his eyes.
“Wait a minute… You gave me an infection and electrocuted me?” Her voice raised in pitch a bit.
“Sort of, yeah. But it did the trick. Scott helped you get rid of the infection, so you’re all clear. And it was a low dose of electricity, really. Just enough to fry up the nanogenes. Right now we’re filtering your blood, so the dead nanogenes will be completely gone and this won’t happen again.” She felt him squeeze her hand.
“Where is everyone?” Rose looked around the sterile medical lab, fighting a shudder of mingled fear and revulsion.
The Doctor suddenly looked surprised and his spine stiffened. A flash of worry passed over his face, quickly masked. He stood up and moved to prop open the door, relieving some of the irrational panic of being trapped in a hospital bed again. Was she that obvious? She didn’t need him to start treating her like she was made of glass.
“House will be back in a bit, to help disconnect the machine there and remove the IVs. Lets him feel all medically professional. Besides, he really did help stop whatever process was goin’ on. Scott was exhausted, and after it was obvious you were gonna be just fine, he went to find Ami and hopefully a bit of kip. Rodney went for food, maybe some sleep. He looked ready to collapse. Don’t know where Jack went off to.” The Doctor frowned at that.
“So, now tell me the truth, Doctor. You didn’t say anything about undoing whatever the nanogenes were doing. How bad is it?” Rose braced herself for the answer.
