[Isabel] A distinctly second-class nerd nohatmatt September 9 2006, 09:58:47 UTC
Isabel ignored the man who came into the kitchen until he started talking to her, which surprised her. She figured word of her encounter with Claire must have spread by now, so why would anybody want to try to be friendly?

She turned and studied this man more carefully. Receding dark hair, a physique that didn't speak of hard work and physical exercise on a regular basis. He stammered his way through a vain attempt to cheer her up, completely missing the reason why she was upset.

Not that it wouldn't be nice to get out of here, but...

"I've eaten, thanks," Isabel said, waving a hand vaguely at the steaming pan of soup on the hob. She peered at the bowl the man was holding and turned her nose up. "I reckon you're better off with some soup than that stuff. Here."

She picked up a bowl, warmed it with a wave of her hand, and ladled some soup into it.

"My name's Isabel," she said, offering the bowl. "You think you can get us off this island?"

[McKay] Not of the 'in' crowd lost_mckay September 9 2006, 13:06:45 UTC
With the conspicuous absence of the man through most of emotional bits of island life thus far, a trick McKay's learned through his life, some parts more difficult than others, the chances of him being upset with, well, an attractive blonde is close to nil. Empathy isn't one of his strong suits, and it suited him well.

"Oh... um... Rodney McKay. Doctor... Doctor Rodney McKay." He didn't hold out a hand, however, to make final the introductions, the bowl made it slightly awkward. Completely missing the fact that it was with a simple wave of her hand that warmed the bowl, the scientist took it. Adding the second, of course, caused him to juggle somewhat, his attention shifting for the move, and putting the first bowl down, there was a touch of curiosity as to exactly what was in there. His regard lingered on the silver cover, and as a result, his voice sounded a bit distracted, and a thumb pointed over his shoulder towards the door out there. "Ah... okay. Well, I've been pretty much working and just needed something ( ... )

[Isabel] Cocky, isn't he? nohatmatt September 9 2006, 20:05:00 UTC
Isabel blinked at McKay for a few a moments while she waited for her brain to make sense of what he'd said. That kind of information needed to be delivered much more slowly than McKay seemed to consider appropriate. He was clearly used to the company of people who operated at the same level of knowledge that he did.

Of course, he didn't know about the kind of things she'd encountered. Her own powers, continual exposure to people from other planets, evidence of time travel... she decided to skip the questions McKay would probably be expecting, and accept that he believed they were six months out of phase with the rest of the world.

"You say you got messages out," she said. "How do you know anybody received them? How do you know anybody who could understand them received them?" She picked up his soup bowl and very deliberately passed her hand over it in front of his face, letting him see the soup residue vanish, leaving the bowl sparkling clean. "You might want to revise what you think I'll understand."

[McKay] Poll: Who isn't alien or psychic??? lost_mckay September 9 2006, 23:28:22 UTC
"How do I know?" Rodney's back straightened as his tones turned to the softly incredulous. "750 messages out. I'd say that the chances of someone receiving them is pretty high. Out of that chance, I'd say that... it's an even better chance that the person who is supposed to get it will." There's a bit of a puff there, though he doesn't go into any real specifics beyond what he has. "Don't worry, blondie... the right person will get it if she hasn't already." She?

He watched as Isabel leaned in for the bowl, interested for the moment the view afforded, such as it was. When the bowl was taken from Rodney, his attention took a moment to follow it, but as he did, his mouth dropped open ever so slightly. What is it with this place??! There was a moment when he considered challenging her, but-but-but... he's, once again, outgunned, so to speak. As for 'special', he's simply brilliant. He wasn't rich, psychic, or possess any alien technology or genetic benefits outside the ATA gene. And how often does that come up in his home galaxy ( ... )
