Trials

Gosh! God's grace is an awesome, incomprehensible concept...I can't even stay focused on God through very minor trials. My car breaks down...very minor when compared with the types of trials other people go through. Why don't I trust God even with small things?!!! Its like I say I trust Him but then when something happens like my care breaking

This is so true! It's also interesting to consider how our image of what it means to rejoice may be skewed. We know that Jesus lived a perfect life-does His joy look like our picture? His life isn't as "happy clappy" as our traditional picture, which is a pretty big tip that our picture is too limited. He never denied brokenness. He wasn't afraid to weep or to rebuke or to be quiet. He was a "man of sorrows."

Perhaps our understanding of joy is too much about us feeling (or acting) happy and good, or even too much about shoving aside hard reality instead of seeing God in it. Our picture is too small. Our joy is too small.
