[ It didn't take Hephaestion long to find out that the forest was one of the most peaceful parts of Wonderland (relatively of course, considering that such peace meant no people to disturb him) and thus perfect for playing the harp. At least it was usually, arrows flying past his head were not a normal occurrence. He instinctively turned around and kneeled down ]

Who is there?

[A figure sitting in a tree fifty paces away cocks another arrow. A grin.]

God.

Any last words before I send you to your grave, mortal?

[ Hephaestion, still kneeling, is trying to figure out where the mysterious archer may be. Since he can't, he leaves his harp on the ground and instead raises his hands to try to catch the arrow ]

Sorry, but my god is busy conquering India. Shoot.

Pity. You should have begged when you had the chance.

[A bark of laughter, and he does, indeed, shoot, aiming for the other's right leg.]

[The forest is an interesting place, full of strange wildlife Ion's never heard of. But it seems all of said wildlife is dead today! He doesn't bother to move when an arrow flies past...instead he just looks in the direction he came from, hoping to see the source. Or make them think he sees them. Either one.]

I think you may have missed.

[What a boring reaction, but the passive state of the other piques his interest. He chortles.]

Would you rather I make the next one hit?

[He smiles a bit, waving his hand towards the very definitely dead creatures around him.]

I'd prefer it not, though I wonder if you really need to use so many arrows.

[Well, this is a strange turn of events. He swings his legs from his position on the tree, bow momentarily forgotten.]

I can't run out of arrows. They don't have another purpose, anyway.

[Standing a ways to the side, he completely ignores the arrow and instead observes the damage. Soon after he slowly approaches the corpse of a soldier, and stares down looking mildly unimpressed.]

What a sight.

[A huff from his place in the tree. The next arrow is aiming for your head, Kuja.]

[He continues to stare at the corpse before he languidly kicks it.]

No proper response? How impolite of you.

Does an elephant need to be polite to an ant?

[And the arrow flies!]

[Lightning just wanted to train. She really did. Unfortunately for her, the seemingly quiet and tranquil forest seems to be occupied with a particularly dangerous inhabitant, if the soldiers and animals riddled with arrows are anything to go by.

And when one comes soaring in her direction, she quickly blocks it off with a swift motion from her Shifter. Her frigid blue eyes take on a hard, alert glint, and she quickly looks around.]

Come out.

[No, he's not coming out. Or at least, he isn't coming out until he feels like it.

This one has an interesting reaction. He laughs.]

Is that any way to speak to a god, insect?

[Lightning steps forward, continuing to look around, with her Blazefire Saber at the ready. She can detect Apollo's presence---being in the military has honed her senses to almost inhumane levels, nevermind being imbued with the power of the l'Cie.

He's not one of the Cardholders, that's for sure---but she's unsure of whether or not he's an enemy. And the way he's addressing her---thankfully, Lightning is not afraid of gods. The fal'Cie were bad enough.]

Even if you are a god, you're just as powerless as the rest of us---nothing but another soldier in another pointless and petty war. Now show yourself.

[And just to prove her point, she summons a small Thunder spell to hopefully draw Apollo out. If there's one thing she can't stand, it's mindgames.]

[Her brand of defiance isn't something that he's used to, and her words do not please him. He scowls, and cocks another arrow onto his bow -- this woman had nerve. And while that nerve is entertaining, it's also infinitely irritating.

The lightning does catch his attention. A mortal capable of using the magic of the gods? Fascinating, utterly fascinating. But a quick trial and error showed that she wasn't a god herself, which only makes it more interesting, of course. When Apollo is bored, he has a tendency to find a lot of things interesting.

A burst of flame to match the lightning.]

And what will you do if I show myself, mortal? Kill me?
