LAST RESORT

Before the beginning, there were Three. Together, they weaved the paths, created the sun, the moon, the stars, and the world until it was complete. And together, they created their children to walk the cycle they created.

Universe Premise:
There were three gods: Order, Chaos and Time*. These same gods populated world with people, all different but also quite similar, each inclined toward Order or Chaos, for both had their favorites. But Time, who had many names, one of them “fate”, thought to have favorites too, and to those people, he granted them Names powerful enough to do as he did, which was to mediate between order and chaos. Given time, however, these people who were Named began to see themselves as different from those who were Unnamed and ostracized them. There came the Great Rift where those Named subdued those who were not - labeled Esufers and isolated them in a place called Weft. They ignored the protests of the gods and turned on them as well. Order was kept, Chaos killed and Time disappeared. But as there is action, there will always be a reaction…

This is the world the stories of this universe will come from, and is the basis of them.

Last Resort

One day, humanity will strive to leave the gods that fathered them, that mothered them, that sheltered them. They are still children, after all. And that is what children do.
Story Summary: It’s been many centuries since the Great Rift that so very few are even aware that it ever happened at all, especially after the Purge that happened more recently - if two hundred years (give or take) is recent. The world is in Order, all is in place, in peace and everything is the same as yesterday and the day before yesterday and so many yesterdays before that. But in the last decade, there had been a spike of criminal activity and strange activity has been increasing. People are dying, children are being born. Chaos has returned.
Characters List: (Incomplete)
  • Mikhail Folkner: Main character. He is the Folkner family’s acting head in his grandfather’s stead and is enlisted in the system’s Peacekeeper unit. He holds his duty to the family and his job with pride. He has an unusually high Order strength. [“Order.” Is, in fact the more recent manifestation of Order himself, but is unaware of it.]
  • Millia Folkner: Mikhail’s younger sister, often kept out of the loop of the household and is sheltered away. Headstrong and opinionated, she doesn’t agree with many of the things going on. She’s abnormally disagreeable, which is why she’s kept hidden. She is the one who found Sora. [“Portent.” Is a natural-born Chaos child, but is not aware of it.]
  • Sora: A mysterious girl who suffers from amnesia. She seems to stick to Millia and is unnaturally curious about Mikhail. Doesn’t seem all that inclined to talk. She dies. Many times. [“Chaos.” Is the manifestation of Chaos and for that reason, is hunted by Shigeru.]
  • Shigeru Kageshiro: Head of the revered Kageshiro household and is the leader of the illusive HOUNDS. Mysterious man and eventually becomes Mikhail’s boss. Has many agendas and keeps an eye on Mikhail for some reason. [“Right eye.”]
  • Other characters: [EB]Reni Soreen, Satoshi, many other characters from the Peacekeepers... still to be added.
Chronological Line-up: 2nd/5 in the 'verse.

Ephemeral Butterfly

Sometimes, children may need guidance. Other times, they will need to be left alone.
Story Summary: Prequel to Last Resort. Tackles the effects of the Great Rift and is the catalyst of the world’s restoration.
Characters List: (Incomplete)
  • Reni Soreen Cleft: Reni is ten years old - the only one in the halted, stagnant world to age and for that reason, he kept to himself in his family. Without anyone to teach him what everyone else seems to know, Reni wants to leave his home to search for something he knows he lost but doesn’t remember. (If it’s not here, it should be out there.) Pretty innocent, gullible and too curious. [“Time. Fate. Namer.” The human, reincarnated half of Time, with all the power but none of his memories.]
  • Soreen: A mysterious, jaded person and has been around since the Great Rift and has a connection to Reni. He only asks for only two things: A name and a decision. [“Time. Fate. Namer.” The second half of Time, with all the memories but no power.]
  • Satoshi Kageshiro: The younger twin brother of Shigeru Kageshiro, he’s the only one of his clan who broke away from searching for the remains of Chaos to search for the elusive Time. Is a bit of a genius, and was the first to meet Reni and gave him his cross clips. [“Left eye.”]
  • Ken McKenzie: Reni’s first friend. He doesn’t know a lot about what’s going on, but he’s got a sense of justice that he passes on to his friend. [“Courage.”]
  • Lionel: Reni’s caretaker in lieu of his mother and lost father. [“Steadfast.”]
  • Other characters: [LR] Mikhail, Shigeru. EB has a smaller cast
Chronological Line-up: 1st/5 in the 'verse.

Child's Play

How lonely is the path of the sire.
Story Summary: Post-Last Resort, pre-Ashes. An interlude of sorts. Between the lands of Weave, the settlement of the Named and Weft, the land where Esufers are exiled, there is a small place called the traveler’s rest point. No one seems to go there, time seems oddly displaced and Eike, who finds himself there when he woke up, finds himself deep in the reason why. A murder/horror/ghost story.
Characters List: (Incomplete)
  • Eike: A thief and rather serious for his age. He was brought up in Weave, without memories of who he was or what his name is, but left to slip through the cracks. He suffers from trauma and hates fire for reasons he doesn’t remember, and woke up in the traveler’s restpoint. Can see ghosts. [“Illumination.”]
  • Phantom*: A ghost of a man in the traveler’s rest point. He’s a little too attached to Eike, who can see ghosts. There’s a strange connection between him and the serial killer. [“”]
  • ?: A strange man set on Eike, but rather creepy and rather obsessive. A serial killer whose motives and reasons aren’t clear. [“”]
  • Sora: The elusive caretaker of the traveler’s rest point. She feeds Eike and cares for him as she does for her many children. A cheerful lady, but mysterious; she can see the ghosts of her rest spot but doesn’t seem like she does. [“Chaos”]
Chronological Line-up: 3rd/5 in the 'verse.

Pandora Renege

And the day will come when the gods must teach humanity to live without them. Are they ready? Has that time come?
Story Summary: The rise of the Chaos-born during the events of LR gave way to the birth of children of exceptional power and Names but their alignment made them dangerous. And so, those of the HOUNDS administration planned a means of controlling them - that is, to use them to manipulate those in the Weft.
Characters List: (Incomplete)
  • 'Noname’: 21 years old. A Named man transferred to the HOUNDS administration thanks to Satoshi’s influences. He doesn’t know why he’s assigned there in the first place, but his loyalty makes him go where he’s told. But soon after being warned away by a strange man, he realizes that he’s deeply rooted in a world-wide conspiracy.
  • Irra: 28 years old. The first of the Chaos-born, Irra is selectively mute and was able to slip through the administration’s raid and was fostered by a kind man. He has trouble expressing his feelings and it’s disputed by many that he has any in the first place. A doctor by profession, he keeps an eye on the political climate in Weft but keeps himself hidden. He’s the only one of the siblings who has met and grew with their mother. [“Wrath”]
  • Kauren: 23 years old. Second-born, Kauren is hyper, cheerful and very talkative. He ran away from the administration’s testing and after learning that he had other siblings, created a rebellion group to stop the administration and its human experiments. He has heard of an older brother, though it was unconfirmed. It is said that his hunger could never be sated, or had no limits. [“Gluttony”]
  • Pearl: 18 years old. Third-born and first daughter, Pearl is deemed most useful by the administration and used as a means of propaganda because of her appearance and unnatural charm. She’s the most visible of the siblings but hates attention. She’s afraid of men, but with very good reason. [“Lust”]
  • Terra: 15 years old. Fourth child and twin to Jalou, was discarded after he lost his eyesight (and subsequently, his confidence.) He works in an orphanage now and is rather bitter. [“Pride”]
  • Jalou: 15 years old. Fifth child (by a few minutes) and twin to Terra, he struck a deal with his handlers for Terra and killed them. They escaped soon after, and hid away in an orphanage. Rebellious and restless. [“Envy”]
  • Zanj: 13 years old. Sixth child, and the only one unable to protest or contest the administration’s hold on him because of his comatose state and his muteness. He has high readings for magic and so most of the experiments are conducted on him. Most dreamwalking* breakthroughs were done because of him. Is rather optimistic, if a little naïve and prone to bullying. [“Sloth”]
  • Argent: 11 years old. Seventh child, and second daughter. She’s rather mean and thrives in her situation. Business-minded and cutthroat. [“Greed”]
  • Sora: Mother to all first-generation Chaos-born, she hasn’t been found despite Irra’s searching. [“Chaos”]
Chronological Line-up: 4th/5 in the 'verse.

Ashes

But never forget. Even when the children leave their father’s house, they still remain their father’s children.
Terminology:
  • Dream: The will and strength of a Name, given form.
  • Dreamwalking: The ability manifest by a Dream.
  • The Game*: A battle system considered a Game played by the Named. Can be used in recreation and is also used to settle disputes. It requires two Masters and each at least one Knight.
  • Master: Often the one of strongest will among his group, and is the one who directs the Knight’s strength and power. The stronger the Master, the better the Knights as the capacity of the Knight cannot exceed that of his Master. If the Master falls, the team loses the Game.
  • Knights: Their stamina and strength is dependent on their Master’s Dream. Their duty is to do as their Master bids, and to protect him.
Characters List: (Incomplete)
  • Leon: 18 years old. He lives alone in his house and often lives in the past because of his loss of his parents and younger brother, Eike to a fire. He isn’t Named, but is gifted with the Dreamwalk ability when he was forced to protect Erii.
  • Erii: 8 years old. Is pretty smart and was a student at the Academia, but took off after having a dispute about the Nameless and their inability to Dreamwalk. He believes that given the chance, they too can play the Games if they had the will. An exceptional Master without any skill in being a Knight, he was pursued by HOUNDS because of his plans for a potentially dangerous experiment. Has a unique Dreamwalk ability and used it on Leon to protect himself. [“Wordsmith”, Alignment: Neutral]
  • Solei: One of the HOUNDS set to search for and root out Erii, is the older brother of Lunei. He has a scar on his right eye because he protected his brother from a harsh disciplinary punishment. Is rather cheerful and can cook. [“Day”, Alignment: Chaos]
  • Lunei: One of the HOUNDS set to search for and root out Erii. The younger brother of Solei. Is brash, outspoken and can be very cold. Because of one of his complaints during training, his brother was hurt in his stead and is very guilty because of it. His hatred toward the Nameless is born through his training. Bro-complex to the max. [“Night”, Alignment: Order]
  • Natalie: 17 years old. She’s Leon’s sickly neighbor and has been friends with Leon and his brother Eike. She’s motherly and very good at household chores because she usually spent her days in her house when she wasn’t over at Leon’s to check up on him. She won’t tell Leon, but she knows that she’s going to die soon. Nameless.
  • All other characters will have cameos in this story.
Chronological Line-up: Last in the 'verse.
