Im so irritated. I've been working on a hat for my mom for like 3 days now. I finished it today and was super excited that it turned out, except it was a little big, so I washed it, hoping that it would shrink up a little bit. It shrunk up a little but not enough.... grrrr.... AND when I washed it, it got all floppy like, which I wouldn't mind, ( Read more... )

Argh! I hate that.

I just spent a week on a friend's scarf only to decide that I hate the damn thing altogether. Le sigh.

you must be a perfectionist like myself...
i can't count the number of times i've begun a project that i nearly completed before changing my mind and ripping the whole thing back apart.

ack! I was reminded by my friend the hat maker croshay that for a snug fitting style, i.e. a beanie, you need to make the finished hat size for a 21" head about 2" inches smaller, so 19". so all formulas should be around a 19" head.

..and by that I meant 19" for a 21" head in a close fitting style (beanie hat) in dc stitch starting at the top using a semistretchy yarn, like acrylic or wool.
starting at the brim is a little different, most people use a plain chain which doesnt stretch much so you really do need a more exact measurement to start.. or a more flexible beg chain like the double chain (tutorial at the http://www.weirdmirror.org).

i understand u completely because i am having a similar experience right now!
my mom asked me if i could make her a pair of fingerless mittens like the pair i made myself and of course i said yes. i wanted to give them to her for xmas. so first i made the right mitten and was very happy with the results of this one, and now i just finished the left mitten only to find that the left one is *noticeably* bigger than the right mitten!!!! argh!!
and i didn't use a different hook, stitch, yarn or anything. it seems like all of a sudden my hands decided to crochet a larger gauge all of a sudden
now i dunno what to do because i don't have correct the mistake before xmas!! :(
i... am... mad
