Indeed. One of my friends pointed me at it this morning. Stupendously fast speed, and it's all solid state - hence the ability to get the speed. I'm wondering at the cost though. How does that really compare with current tech and costs?
basic calcs say that for 3 hosts and a fabric. you're looking at around $40k, which is about the same, so not so bad all up from a bang per buck point of view. Does useless things for storage consolidation though.
The real difference is in trying to find something in the SAN world that has even half the performance of this (either in throughput or in IOPS)
We (Dimension Data) are now looking quite seriously at using these as High-performance tier one storage for HPC & v-large Database applications.
This would mean that we can downgrade our spinning-rust from EMC Symetrix or HDS 9970 enterprise systems to EMC Clariion or HDS 9960 workgroup systems because we don't need to support massive IOPS throughput - but large contiguous transfers.
