Oh! What a lovely mystery! And I just love Cas being sneaky and devious even if it's against Dean. Still, he at least he apologized.

And I love their moment at the end.

Huh, you know, I don't read a lot of casefic with Cas in it, and I think this is the antidote to the reason I don't-- his morality and methods aren't the same as the Winchesters', and at heart they aren't good at understanding or predicting each other. I really like how you've examined and played on that, and on the dim beginnings of understanding and alliance. Plus: BURNING DOWN A FOREST. Awesome.

Thank you for reading and the comment . Sorry for this belated reply.

Everytime I think of Castiel and Dean, I'm still amazed that Castiel did what he did and said it was for Dean considering how different they're from each other. The gap of understanding thatmust exist between them concerning how the world works is mind-boggling .

I'm so sorry it took me so long to comment on this. Lovely story! I really liked the idea that when the nephlim died their human bodies died but their immortal spirits remained trapped.

Thank you so much for writing this!

I really like how creepy Castiel is in this-he's very much not human, both in his sense of morality and his powers. He's on the winchester's side, but he's still dangerous to them. The idea of the nephilim was interesting, too-and the part with Sam and the minotaur made me giggle.
