A pair of federal agents arrive at an island mental hospital to search for an escaped patient. A thorough by-the-book search eventually finds the patient hiding in an unused boiler room. The agent realizes that he can mitigate his recurring nightmares by simply drinking a little more alcohol before bed.
A crippled marine gets a new lease on life when he has a chance to help resource exploration on an alien world through a projected body designed to help infiltrate the native culture. He joins a diplomatic effort which, with time and patience, produces a peaceful cross-cultural alliance that is beneficial for both species.
A teenage girl finds herself attracted to an immortal blood-drinking creature. When she realizes that he is centuries old, she breaks off contact and begins dating someone more age-appropriate. The vampire recognizes that love is really not feasible for a creature like himself, and continues his existence as a loner.
A couple move into a new house where they experience strange noises at night. They begin video taping at night, and after a few weeks of this come to the conclusion that they simply have a somewhat noisy neighborhood that is prone to strong winds. New double-insulated storm windows largely solve the problem.
A team of very tough soldiers go behind enemy lines to visit terror on the enemy. When they hear of an opportunity to assassinate the enemy's top leadership, they put a plan together with the help of local insurgency, but enemy intelligence and security efficiently finds and executes them well in advance.
