Passing of a friend to the industry

Rory Root - owner of the Comic Relief comics shop in Berkeley that has been a bedrock of the industry for as long as I've been seriously reading comics, much less writing any of them - passed away today from what sounds to have been complications from hernia surgery over the weekend ( Read more... )

Aw, that is too bad. Comic relief is my regular shop. Not only was he a great comics guy, he was a great guy and a part of what makes Berkeley a cool place to live. He always made sure people felt welcome in the store whether you were a hardcore nerd or just browsing and he set the same tone for his employees to follow.

Comic Relief, like Isotope in SF and Golden Apple in LA, has always been one of the best stores on the West Coast. It's a real bummer that he died.
