This was the plan on that Tuesday night -- take the 3:15 Acela to New York the day before a client meeting; check into the hotel, drop off bags, change clothes, and walk down to Avalon for Mono, possibly meet up with damiel enroute, head back to hotel, sleep, get up for 9AM meeting, drink lots of coffee and cover-up any hearing loss by solicitiously ( Read more... )

This was the plan on that Tuesday night [...]

So, we made it as far as Mono at Avalon. Did the rest of the plan happen as, um, planned?

Thanks for the play-by-play on the whole band thing. I rely on you to know what the cool kids are listening to.

It's tempting to count the number of Chrome messenger bags and try to match them to the number of fixed gears chained up to the meters outside.

Very nice.

I heard a joke at the Lifestyle show on Tuesday, that not much of the audience got because they weren't really listening to the broken-string patter by the What Time Is It, Mr Fox? violinist (fiddler?):"How many indie rockers does it take to screw in a light bulb?"

"You don't know?"

Explosions in the Sky is muscle wrapped in lyricism. I love their use of snare drums (I believe that's what they are) and the way this marching-band sound bores into the lyrical background. I guess this is what sensitive guys from Texas sound like, beefy and pretty.

They're touring next year. I wish it were now.

Mono's coming to The Middle East in two weeks, and you should see them. No, really, you should. Especially if you like Godspeed, You Black Emperor or Mogwai

is this upstairs or downstairs? I couldn't find it on the ME site. i think i want to go
are you going?

6/18 downstairs.

Pelican headlining, Mono is the middle act. I didn't stick around to see Pelican's act but damiel said that they were very \m/ with a side of =xo
