I kind of like textless icons in general.

...or, if they have text, they're usually stupid, funny sayings. And I realize I have a lot of text icons. I rarely ever use them anymore. (Ffff, this really seems to be the only icon I use at all.)

god i'm so tired

I don't think I've seen you use any other icon in weeks. XD

I've always favored textless icons; personally, text icons are tacky and tend to have too many effects on them.

I've seen more textless icons with effects, actually. It's like some people think they have to compensate for the lack of words so they throw a million filters at the icons. XD I always used to prefer icons with crack sayings and such, and in the PW fandom especially there are some hilarious text icons. I've just lately started to gravitate towards ones that actually convey an emotion, whereas before I just used the most lolworthy.

The fact that I use mostly my own icons and all the icons I've made lately have been for Edgeworth might have something to do with it. ^_^;;

I suppose. Most icons I see on my flist, though, are crops and enhancing the colors. That's...really about it. I do remember a trend earlier in the year, though, when people felt the need to lighten the colors to the point of being blinded.

I guess it depends on the icon artist as well. I've seen a lot who flood them with effects to the point where the image itself is almost indistinguishable, and other who're TOO minimalistic for my tastes. I mean, there's an art to cropping and formatting, but sometimes an icon needs more to be finished. Though I'm the type who HAS to have a border on her icons, if nothing else, so I'm probably not a very good judge.

And icons definitely follow trends--people take styles from people who are more adept, and the ones who take them often screw them up because they don't have the skills necessary to pull the style off successfully. XD

Those are the big exception! I mean the ones that are like, "~BEAUTY~" or other vapid crap. XD

Despite having done a few of those, yeah, I've usually been the type to collect crack or humor text icons, and a lot of the ones that are supposed to be SO DEEP haven't really attracted my interest. There have been a few exceptions though~

...Huh. Looking through my icons now it looks like this is one of the only two or three ~~DEEP~~ text ones I have. I figured I'd have more than that, but all my text icons are crack. XD

*raises hand!* I didn't realise how much I liked them until I began to gather textless ones, and now I use icons really differently to how I did before I began to RP.
