Poisoning the monster? I guess it makes sense. I don't really expect it to work, but at the same time... I don't know. I think it makes me a little sad. It's true we've all suffered because of her, but I can't help but feel sorry for her. There's so much we don't understand about her. I can't shake the feeling that Big Mommy is just as lost ( Read more... )

I suppose.

[Private to Nanaki//hard]

Wonder if this world's crying, too.

Who can say? Any world this altered from it's original state must be affected. But even if we can't hear the world crying, something makes me feel like that creature is. I can't explain why, but it seems... scared.

Maybe it's a Weapon, like Omega. Maybe this world is ending, and the monster's calling us here for support. It hasn't killed us yet... I don't think it wants to.

But on the other hand, we can't stay here. Destroying her could bring us back.

It wouldn't be suffering anymore, if it is.

That's true, but it seems like a selfish solution. What if she just wants to go back too?

You've got a point there, actually. Animals're all about instinct, and far as I could tell, Big Momma's come out only when we bother her. Then again, if you're attacked, you defend yourself, even if it's not outta malice. Law of the jungle.

True, survival must be first priority. However, when a species moves beyond living only on instinct, it also must adopt responsibility. I don't exactly condemn the plan, but I must confess it makes me uncomfortable. It feels like there should always be a better way.

Honestly, me too. Never been all that comfy dealing with this sorta thing...'specially since Big Momma's got a chance of bein' unique. Got no clue what else to do, though...if there's a better idea around, it'll take a heck of a lot of time to figure it out.

I'm glad someone feels the same way.

She really is unique. I've seen many strange things but she's one of the strangest. You're with the group trying to catch a crab for study, right?

People can give which ever theory or opinion they can, but in the end, it all comes down to needs and wants. What people need to do sometimes means doing what they don't want to do. In this case, people may not think the big guy.. err girl, is really bad and may want to try and find a way to get out without harming her. But what they need to do may require exactly that. More often than not.

Of course, whether that's in the minds of the people who are planning this poisoning is another matter entirely.

I imagine they are thinking what most of us are thinking - "I want to go home." In that there is no shame. However, I'm not convinced simply killing Big Mommy will solve our predicament.

Well, there's nothing that says it won't help at least. With Big Mommy dead, it'd at least settle down some people's fears, even if we find ourselves stuck here. It's easier to cope with being stuck in one place, I'd suspect, than to be stuck in a place where your life is potentially in danger at any moment.

Unless without a common enemy we turn on each other. We've already seen it happen within single groups, there's no telling what life would be like here if that occurred on a grand scale.

How many times I've asked myself those very questions, I can't begin to guess. This isn't even the first situation in which I've had to ask them. You're quite correct in that you can't blame a creature for its actions if it simply can't help itself. Then again, you can't sit idly by while innocent people are harmed, even if the harm is unintentional.

If you can work out this dilemma, let me know, mate, because I've never had much luck in finding a definitive answer.

I haven't been alive all that long, but long enough to know there isn't one. My grandfather once said the something along those lines, but I think he put it more like, "Ho ho ho hoooo, only in pictures is the world black and white, and even then there are shades of grey!" And that's when he would get out the Cosmo Canyon Photo Album. He was very wise, but just as strange.

That's a very good combination, wise and strange! Your grandfather sounds like quite the interesting character. We would all do well to remember that wise little metaphor of his. And...Cosmo Canyon? Where is that? I don't think I've ever heard of it.

My hometown. It doesn't seem to be part of this world. It was built as a place where people could study the Planet and how we affect it, essentially. It was meant to be a place of peace as well, but given the state of the rest of the world, that wasn't always true.

My brother keeps saying that at least once the monster's dead we won't have to worry about food for a while... but personally, I don't think it would taste very good.

She's been here too long to be any Summon that I know of, so no matter how she got here, I think she must be acting on her own by this point. I actually haven't found her to be much of a problem, but I heard that she destroyed a lot of the city right before I came here.

I don't think it would either, especially if it had been poisoned.

She acts on her own, but I don't think she realizes what she's doing. I think the crab monsters are a much greater concern. While Big Mommy hides more often then not, they're out and about at all times, always presenting a significant danger. As far as I am concerned, trying to find a way to fight them is a much more productive task than trying to eliminate the monster.

I agree. She doesn't seem malicious, or even very smart. If there were a way to keep her out of the populated areas, she wouldn't even be a problem... except that the crabs are probably breeding on her, or in her nest. As long as she's around, I don't think we'll ever get rid of them.
