50 various icons!

Mar 02, 2009 19:22

I branched out and did something I'd never done before...did a full blown art icon post. I'd wanted to try it for sometime, but I'd always enjoyed stock so much, I wasn't sure I'd be able to do anything else. Hopefully I won't be stepping on olde_fashioned or elea24's toes with this, their stuff is much better. I think I did okay for a first time although some ( Read more... )

:gasp:! I don't what you mean about the art icons because they are stunning! I mean stunning! I can't pick which ones to nominate over at costume_awards.

I love what you did with 14 & 18. I really really like what you did with 40.

Thanks! I just wasn't sure they were okay because I don't have the feel for them yet. Trying to put my style into icons from art that's really beautiful anyway is not easy. I'm glad you liked them!

Nonsense! I certainly don't mind, why would I? It's not like I own all the art in the universe. ;-P

You did great, especially if it's your first time iconing art. It's totally different from doing regular images, IMO, and it does take practice. You've got good coloring and even better cropping on the Winterhalter ones, but I would make a teeny suggestion of using PNGs, if I may be so bold. O.o

#36 is beautiful in a scary, creep sort of way, and now I can't stop thinking of the girl in the pic as sort of Nolanized Harley Quinn...lol!

#50 is tres manifique! :-D

Thanks so much, I'm glad you approve of them. I really tried my best, so all I need to do now is find more art. Tissot would be my next best bet I think. Any others along that same line you would suggest? I'm sorry to say I'm not up on my art like I should be.

Thanks! jillicons puts out art bases that are really cool and creepy like that. I have no clue where she finds the pictures but I love iconing them, although most of the time, it's really hard to find a way to enhance them, since they're so good. They make it a challenge.

Thanks, I adore Vivien Leigh and Jess provided a great set of pictures for her over at gwtw_stills.

but I would make a teeny suggestion of using PNGs, if I may be so bold. O.oI'm still confused as to the whole JPG/PNG controversy. I see so many people do it and here lately, I've been saving some of my stuff in PNG, depending on how it looks in the ( ... )

Along the same line as Tissot? Well, he's kind of a pet of mine, so I'm not sure that anyone else comes close to his standards of "prettiness" and attention to detail. ;-P Have you ever tried ArtRenewal.org? I get most of my paintings from there, and they have a fairly decent search engine. You can also search by artist death date, which is surprisingly helpful in discovering new artists for a particular era, because odds are, they were painting right before they died ( ... )

I agree, I love Tissot's work, but the quality I found with Winterhalter was amazing as far as detail, especially in the face. I'm looking for something along those lines, portaits and period costumes mostly. I found Winterhalter through artrenewal.org. But I think I'll take a peek at your tags and see if anything strikes me. I've noted the ones you listed here as well. :)

Yeah, the biggest difference I'd see with PNG is when I would use the preview on PS3 and switch between JPG and PNG. You could see a slight graininess show up that bothered me a lot. I do notice that my older JPG's seem to be losing some of their luster, which from what you say, makes sense that maybe PNG's hold up longer. I hate to see that happening since I can't resave those icons in PNG format. But on this last set, I'd decided that I would start making them in PNG, so when I made another icon post, I'll try the whole set that way. It might take some getting used to... :D
