This is brilliant, and I've been enjoying it so much so far. The premise itself is utterly awesome.

Anyway, you asked about measurements. At that point in time Britain was still using Imperial. And, lo and behold, they still do today to a certain extent. It's only the temperature and the distances I think that run on the Metric standard. Could be wrong.
