If I weren't so totally nuts about MGG, I would have given up on Criminal Minds last season. I haven't gotten last season's DVDs yet and frankly, I don't know that I will. I fear my love for the show begins to wane.
I didn't actually watch 'Zug..'. My local CBS affiliate covers college basketball and the games are always on Wednesday nights and they always preempt that night's show. But I have read about it and I decided not to watch the rerun because I was just so disappointed in how the show runners chose to tell this story.
A&E shows Criminal Minds in the afternoons and you can watch older shows and they are so much better (The Fisher King, Ride the Lightning to name a couple of my favorites) that the problems are magnified. I almost wish MGG hadn't signed on for another season so they could kill Reid and I could move on to some other show.
Although I wouldn't strictly call Reid suicidal, it makes perfect sense for him to contemplate being with Maeve in the only way that makes some strange sense to him.
Yeah, I agree. I think Reid'd be suicidal only to the point where he wants to be with Maeve. I had a headcanon he made sure everyone was taken care of before he "leaves" (after 100.5 days - the same amount of time he spent with Reid), without realizing the team knows exactly what he's up to and they step in at the last moment.
I really loved this season. Thought it was one of the best...that is until Zugzwang effed it all up. Even reading the spoilers, and seeing only a minute amount of gifs seems to show a distinct change. For one, it's like Repetition City.
And it's good you haven't seen Zugzwang. It not only ruins episodes after it, but episodes before it - including in syndication. If you are interested, I did do a recap, and the link is in the Magnum Opus recap at the end (or you can find the link by my name on my tumblr).
