I read this on my phone yesterday but wanted to be able to re-read it and be on my computer before I commented. This is so exactly what I want from the two of them. That last line is completely amazing, by the way. I'll never know how you do it! Thank you thank you!

Crosses on your body (Generation Kill, Brad/Nate, scars + goodbyes)

When Nate retires from the Corps and Brad doesn't, it's tough at first. Knowing that he'll be safe at home while Brad goes out there again, knowing better than any civilian what could happen, knowing that Brad might not come home.

But he also knows not to ask too many questions when Brad does come home. He doesn't ask about the scars that weren't there yet last time they saw each other, nor about bruises that are still angry and red. Just because he's been there doesn't mean he's been there, doesn't mean he knows what Brad has been through this time, what's on his mind when he gets that faraway look in his eyes. So instead of asking Nate kisses every single scar on Brad's body, reacquainting himself with the old and discovering the new ones, he retraces white and red lines with his fingers and his lips, smiles about that ridiculous Royo tattoo on Brad's back. He doesn't need to know the story behind every mark, because he knows that Brad doesn't need to share them.
