I've been watching Switched at Birth, too. I never noticed what you did, but now I will and it's probably going to drive me nuts. What drives me crazy is that Bay has knocked herself out learning sign language to talk to Daphne and Emmett, but Kathryn only knows a few signs and John doesn't seem to know any. What's up with that?! It just seems odd to me that they want to get to know Daphne, but they don't learn sign language to speak with her. Also? Is it just me or does it seem that Regina talks slower when she's signing? I don't see the same thing with Emmett and his mother. Is it because the actress who plays Regina only learned to sign when she started the show? I mean she's doing a fantastic job but it's something I notice sometimes.

I think the idea that Bay and Toby have put in a little more effort into the whole signing thing is in part the idea that young people tend to learn new languages faster, and they both have more interaction with both Daphne and especially Emmett than the other two. Bay has clearly done a lot better than all of them though, which can certainly be attributed to her relationship ( ... )
