“You know we don’t gotta do this, hummingbird,” Jayne said gently, cupping River’s face in his big hands.
“I want to,” she replied, smiling softly.
“OK, then.” He laid her back on the reclined chair and pressed his lips to hers in a tender kiss. He looked deeply into her eyes, to make sure that there was no hesitation behind them before they got started. “It’s your first time, so it’s probably going to hurt a bit, alright. So, don’t be afraid.” He kissed her quickly once more before adding, “If the pain gets too much, let me know and we’ll stop.”
River nodded her agreement, took a deep breath and tried to get her tightly wound body to relax. Clenching her teeth against the pain, she sought out Jayne’s eyes. She saw his concerned look and forced a smile on her face to let him know that it was alright to keep going. Eventually the pain subsided and a kind of pleasure started to take its place. Little vibrations traveled up her spine and sent a strangely pleasant tingle through her body.
When it was over, River looked up at Jayne and smiled brightly.
“How does it look?” She asked, craning her neck to see the spot on her hip.
“It looks great baby girl.” Jayne admired the small hummingbird that seemed to be suspended in permanent flight on his girl’s body and clapped a hand on the tattoo artist’s shoulder in thanks.
