If you were going to host a semi-formal to formal multi course meal for accquintences which recipes would you prepare?

It has to be food you know how to make, and can make in your home. As many courses as you want, so long a it's more than one.

Drink choices are optional.

Go!

The middle courses would depend on the people and the season. I need more parameters :)

But...

There would definitely be fancy salad, probably with beets and goat cheese.

There would also definitely be multiple desserts, including fruit, chocolate, cold and hot. They would not seem to go together, but then they would.

And there would probably be a cocktail to go with each course.

hmmm, multiple desserts servings. I like that.

Fancy salad oh la la. :) I'm no fan of beets, but I am intrigued by this idea of "fancy salad". The only fancy salad I know how to make was something I learned from Mr. Rogers.

As for perimeters-responders choice. I only ask because I've recently started watching Come Dine With Me, where 5 strangers go to each others house for dinner, then grade each other (winner gets $1000).

!!! That sounds like a game I want to play! I throw these big crazy game parties at my house. One the teams actually had to cook something in my kitchen and we voted for the winner. Not quite the same thing, but quite hilarious.

I wish I knew someone who threw big game night parties, that sounds like a lot of fun. Honestly, I'd settle for some people having a cooie swap, but I'm a sucker for the 1950s house wife type group activities*.

* To clarify, I mean things normally attributed to the ideal of the 1950s house wife. Dinner parties, block parties, cookie swaps, bake offs. They don't seem to exist anymoer :(

If you really want to be on the game show you can apply at http://wnetwork.com/Home.aspx - I don't know if they film near where you live or not. Of course you could always get a group of friends, each put in $50 and play by yourselves.
