OOooohhh! I had to read this through twice, because the first time, it just teased at the edge of my mind ("I should know this") and then like the proverbial light-bulb: aha! the Dead under the mountain, the forsworn!

Very nicely done, very subtle!

Oh, sorry! I wasn't trying to be cryptic. I guess I figured most people would be coming here from the spooky_arda link and would see the reference to my having read up on the Paths of the Dead recently. I'm glad you were ableo to figure it out anyway. Thanks for the review! :)

I thought cryptic was good, makes it scarier--but I remember now, I did see that post, but had forgotten about it! Busy morning, LOL!

I'll admit I was a bit confused at the beginning...but my, what a good piece of writing!

It's not just scary, it's also rather tragic. You definitely made me think about those guys again, and of how many of them actually were oathbreakers and not just trapped by their lords' decision.

From a technical POV, it's as remarkable as your other drabbles. I think everything here works to enhance the purpose: the choice of words, the order of them, the alternation of longer and shorter sentences. Oh, and of course the rhythm is just beautiful. I've read it out aloud to myself, and it sounds great!! :) Well done!

I tried to fudge a little bit on whether they were all really oathbreakers by saying that they (or at least the narrator) agreed with their lords' decision. But I suppose Isildur wasn't really thinking about that when he made the curse.

Thanks very much for the kind review!!
