"So...let me get this straight. You were in a mad scientist's lab and you saw a big red button. And you thought it would be a good idea to press it and see what it did?" Nate asked of the Parker kitten again. A Parker kitten who was a slightly bright yellow with yellow-orange stripes. He was wondering what was stopping him from going downstairs, grabbing a big bottle of scotch, and drinking more than half of it. Or the entire bottle. He should have seen that this was going to happen. Instead, there were kittens instead of three members of his team. The Hardison kitten was less insane to look at, mostly because he was all black. That was expected with him. What was less expected that Eliot was an all gray kitten. He tried to remember the last time he had seen an all grey kitten and he couldn't remember.
"Yep!" Parker said. She turned her head and darted where Sophie was dangling down one of the new cat toys. She pounced upon the feather-y tip before letting it go. She rolled on her back and tried to reach at it, which made Sophie laugh and continue to play with her.
Eliot was sitting down on his usual space on the couch. He was looking surly, considering that he was unhappy being this kitten form. "I told you not to push the button. I don't know why you had to push it just to see what it would do. The entire mission was done and we wouldn't have to worry about going back to undo what you did." He grumbled a bit more before laying down and accepting the light scratching behind his ears that Nate was doing. I will not purr, damnit he thought to himself but started to purr anyways.
"If it can be," Hardison said. He was sitting in front of his laptop on the coffee table in front of the couch. "I've tried doing searches on human to cat formation and all I'm getting is science fiction books."
"I doubt you're going to find anything in Google, Hardison," Sophie said. "If there was such a thing that could be done, the government would be keeping it under wraps, wouldn't they? I mean, that seems to be the most logical choice," she said and then smiled as she heard Parker mew. "Sorry," she said as she started to play with the kitten again.
"Maybe," Hardison said and then chuckled. "I'll look in his computer files," he said as he started to pull them up and did a quick search through them. "Nothing that I can find," he said. "Then again, there is very little that is on this computer. That's just rude. It makes my job harder when people decide not to be in the century they're in," he said and made a hissing sound. He swiped at the USB mouse and then jumped onto it. It was only a quick moment or two later that he was tangled up in the wire that connected the USB mouse to the computer.
"Am I the only one being sane and not giving into the being a kitten thing?" Eliot asked. "Also, why kittens? We're full grown adults. We should be cats. It makes no sense at all," he grumbled before going back to purring. He moved and jumped into Nate's lap. Sure, it felt against his nature, but it also felt like the completely right thing to do at the moment. He cuddled up in Nate's lap and tried to relax, closing his eyes as Nate continued to pet him and letting out a sigh.
"And you thought you weren't a cat person," Sophie said with a smile. "That's adorable."
"Could you untangle Hardison before he hurts himself? Or worse, the computer," Nate said as he continued to pet Eliot. "And I am not a cat person. I'm just reminding myself that this is Eliot and he needs a bit of calm at the moment. It's not like he can go fight out what is eating at him." He looked to where Hardison was completely tangled and mewing for help. He couldn't help from laughing, which earned him a glare.
Sophie got up and untangled Hardison. "You were looking cute there for a moment," she said.
"Yeah yeah," Hardison said as he got completely untangled from the cord. He raced over and pounced Parker before running away.
"Hey!" Parker said and raced after him.
"Don't - " Nate cringed as he heard something breaking in the next room. "Break anything," he said with a sigh. "Sophie, what are we going to do?"
"Close some doors for one thing," Sophie said before kissing Nate's cheek. "For now, I'm going to get you a drink and we'll decide what roles to take in order to con our way into the lab again to reverse them. If they can be reversed."
"This better be reversible," Eliot grumbled. "Or I'm going to hurt Parker. And I don't want to hurt Parker. But she didn't something really stupid."
"I know," Nate said. "But you're not allowed to hurt Parker and I doubt she would let you corner her."
"I know," Eliot said with a sigh. "And thank you for being...well, being nice to me."
"You had any sort of doubt that I would be mean?" Nate asked. "I can't imagine what you are going through Eliot, and I think that you're handling it in the best way that you can. So, don't worry about any of that. And we'll find a way to change all of you back. Even if it means having to go find someone who knows voodoo."
"Oh please don't let it come to that," Sophie said. "They're the worst kind of con artist." She handed Nate his drink before sitting down and picking up Hardison's computer. "Nate, I know this is going to sound weird, but I don't think that we should con them into anything. I think that there should be an open dialogue."
"Why?" Nate asked.
"Because they'd be reasonable," Eliot said. "We'd have to ask them not to get the FBI involved, but I think that would be easy to do. I could talk to Peter over the phone."
"And it might be quicker than trying to con them into anything," Sophie said. "If they really are into the odd, we're not going to really be on their radar. And we can leave as quickly as possible afterwards if you want."
"Do you trust him?" Nate asked.
"As much as I trust anyone," Eliot said. "We'll do it in the morning?"
"Yes," Nate said. He turned on the television to some boxing, moving to lay down as Sophie left to check on the other two kittens and Eliot moved to sit up on the couch's back. He could feel there was something wrong about all of this, but he hoped that he would be wrong for once.
